Position Summary
We are seeking a Fire & Security Systems Design Engineer to lead system design and technical support initiatives. This role is responsible for designing code-compliant fire and intrusion systems, preparing permit applications, supporting field technicians, and programming fire, intrusion, and access control systems. You will ensure that all designs align with NFPA, NEC, and local codes while also assisting with system troubleshooting and cost analysis.
Key Responsibilities
Design fire and security systems in compliance with NFPA 70 / 72, NEC, and city-specific codesReview project scopes with sales team to ensure system functionality and accuracyEvaluate building plans and prepare technical system layoutsComplete and submit permit applications to local jurisdictionsProgram fire, intrusion, and cloud-based access control systemsCoordinate with operations for system planning and installation schedulingCreate zone sheets and prepare complete install packagesSupport field technicians with remote troubleshooting and programming guidanceOrder system components as required for projectsPerform cost accounting for completed jobs to verify profitability and billing accuracyManage and track fire inspections in accordance with NFPA requirementsComplete UL compliance paperwork and verify agreementsUtilize platforms for diagnostics and configuration (e.g., Remote Link and Dealer Admin)Support other engineering and technical initiatives as assignedQualifications
High School Diploma or vocational training (required)Minimum 2 years of commercial field experience or 3 years residential experienceProficiency in fire, intrusion, CCTV, access control, and intercom systemsFamiliarity with DMP, Honeywell Vista, Silent Knight, and Digital Watchdog platforms (preferred)MN Power Limited Technician (PLT) License and NICET II Certification (or ability to obtain NICET II within 6 months)Strong understanding of NEC, NFPA 70 & 72 requirementsSkilled in using a Fluke or VOM meter for diagnosing circuits and systemsValid driver's license and ability to pass pre-employment drug screeningPhysical Requirements
