The Opportunity with McKinstry

We are seeking someone to join our Energy Division as a Project Risk Review Leader . This position supports the delivery of our largest and most complex energy programs and projects. This person provides oversight of project teams working on large, high risk, and / or critical-to-close sales opportunities and construction projects. Frequent visits to regional offices and jobsites are expected to build strong working relationships with project teams. Regular updates on risks, opportunities, and project status will be delivered to Energy Division leadership. This person models how to develop and build jobs the McKinstry Way.

  • Apply risk assessment tools and processes to pre-proposal review of scope of work, execution plan, and contract documents and make recommendations to final approvers.
  • Ensure excellence in transition from sales to build teams.
  • Improve engagement in and outcomes from project review meetings.
  • Lead risk assessments and guide risk mitigation planning and actions.
  • Identify projects at risk of safety, financial, schedule, or client satisfaction performance failure; develop and facilitate implementation of countermeasures.
  • Identify root causes and consistent themes of success or failure for development and / or improvement of standard work.
  • Lead after action reviews of projects to gather learnings and improvement opportunities. Adapt learnings for revisions of standard work and incorporate into lessons learned repository.
  • Propagate knowledge and standard work across regions.
  • Provide regular reports to key stakeholders and leaders.

What You Need To Succeed At McKinstry

  • 10+ years of engineering, construction, project / program management experience required.
  • Four year college degree in architecture, engineering, mechanical / electrical engineering, or related field; or equivalent professional experience required.
  • Strong business acumen and advanced knowledge of financial management programs and software is required.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • Intermediate knowledge of Enterprise Construction Management Systems such as Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Trimble ProjectSight, Planisware, etc.
  • Strong project financial skills, including POC accounting, revenue timing and cash-flow modeling, profitability monitoring, and earned value management.
  • Understanding of energy and construction contracts, including technical scopes of work, key risk items, and contract term implementation on a project.
  • Proven ability to lead diverse groups including executive and regional leadership, technical experts, project management, sales, and administrative functions in various meeting types and settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and drive standards into regional offices through peer-level relationships with regional operations leaders.
  • While this is an individual contributor position, peer and matrix leadership skills are essential to success.

    The pay range for this position is $126,900 - $217,200 per year; base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and / or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
