Overview

Grant Writer role at UC Davis Health Informatics. The Grant Writer will play a central role in supporting the Department of Neurological Surgery’s research mission by leading the development of high-quality, competitive grant proposals. This includes writing, editing, and coordinating submissions to a wide range of funding agencies. The position also involves identifying funding opportunities, collaborating with faculty on research aims and budgets, ensuring compliance with submission guidelines, and supporting post-award reporting. This hybrid role requires strong scientific writing skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively across interdisciplinary teams.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Science, Public Health, or a related field.
• At least 2–3 years of experience in grant writing, research administration, or a related field, preferably in an academic or healthcare setting.
• Proven ability to write, edit, and submit competitive grant proposals, ensuring compliance with funding agency requirements.
• Strong research skills to identify and evaluate potential funding opportunities from federal, state, and private sources.
• Knowledge of grant submission and compliance processes, including experience with online grant portals (e.g., NIH eRA Commons, Grants.gov, NSF FastLane).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex scientific concepts into clear, persuasive narratives.
• Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple deadlines and work collaboratively with faculty and research teams.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with reference management software (e.g., EndNote, Mendeley).
