Job Description
This position is central to the missionaries' role to 'Invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end.' Evaluation Trainers are lead support level individual contributors, responsible for conducting individual and group trainings and facilitating ongoing improvement and coaching of evaluator performance. The Language Evaluation Team has the primary responsibility of overseeing the evaluation of second language abilities of missionaries before they enter MTCs. They also oversee the process for teacher applicants needing language evaluations. It is expected that Evaluator Trainers will assist in overseeing the work of 10-15 evaluators.
Responsibilities
Reports to manager level in Training Department
1. Trains and provides ongoing evaluation and development of evaluators (75%)
Provides individual coaching and continuing in-service training of evaluators through leading weekly meetings.
Provides evaluators with materials and policy information.
Observes and evaluates evaluators.
Facilitates opportunities for evaluator improvement according to needs.
Assists the Manager of Training in training new evaluators prior to evaluation experience.
Ensures evaluators understand and effectively interpret MTC meetings.
Leads in establishing updates or new MTC evaluation guidelines.
Fills in as an evaluator when needed.
2. Leads in advocating for evaluation effectiveness (10%)
Evaluates missionary experience (those receiving evaluation).
Leads evaluators in providing for the individual needs of missionaries.
Leads evaluators in creating an ideal learning environment.
3. Administrative Functions (5%)
Handles day-to-day supervisory matters, conferring with Manager of Training regarding disciplinary issues.
Provides timely recommendations for evaluator merit increases.
Coordinates with other evaluators regarding common employees / meetings.
4. Assists the Manager of Training (10%)
Reports evaluator performance to the Manager of Training.
Assists in interviewing, evaluating candidates' evaluation and language capacities, and making hiring decisions.
Assists in area training meetings.
Assists in coordinating training resources.
Recommendations for evaluator dismissal
5. May be asked to assist in assessing the proficiency level of missionaries, evaluators, interpreters, and teacher applicants in the target language.
6. May take on MTC evaluation responsibilities to as needs arise
7. May include other temporary assigned duties at the MTC (e.g. assisting with Mission Leadership Seminar)
Qualifications
Required :
6 months experience as an MTC evaluator
1 year of experience speaking a second language
Must be fluent in a non-native language (except for English or ESL area assignment).
Demonstrates knowledge of evaluation strategies and methodologies.
Must have a solid understanding of MTC training principles, demonstrate problem-solving and organizational abilities, and have exceptional interpreting competence.
Must communicate effectively.
Demonstrates the ability to handle pressure well.
Must have technology skills to adequately function in the MTC environment.
Must have exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills.
Demonstrates encouraging attitude, proactivity and self-motivation.
To successfully perform the essential functions of the job, there may be physical requirements which need to be met such as sitting for long periods of time and using monitors / equipment.
Preferred :
1 year of experience with teaching, training, or tutoring in any capacity
1 year of experience with evaluating
Experience having served as a missionary
