  • What Your Job Will Be Like

As the Department Manager of the Global Systems Analysis, Research, Capacity Building & Response team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our initiatives aimed at enhancing global security. You will lead a diverse team that includes members with backgrounds in law enforcement, health physics, engineering, and scientific analysis, fostering an environment where varied perspectives contribute to innovative solutions.

Your work will focus on the three functions within the department :

  • Systems Analysis & Research : You will manage the systems analysis team within the department, conducting comprehensive analyses to support strategy and design decisions. This will include close collaboration with the second systems analysis team in the 6800 organization to ensure alignment and leverage complementary expertise. Together, these efforts will guide the development of new technologies and methodologies aimed at improving radiological, nuclear, and border security. You will actively seek out new opportunities for contribution in systems analysis, ensuring that this team aligns with organizational goals and responds to emerging global challenges.
  • Capacity Building : You will lead the capacity building team, which involves developing instructional programs and training initiatives designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of personnel involved in nuclear and radiological security. This team is critical for ensuring that stakeholders are well-prepared to respond effectively to incidents and challenges. You will work to identify gaps in training and knowledge, creating opportunities for growth and development within this area.
  • Response : You will oversee initiatives related to radiological and nuclear facility response force engagement. This includes developing training programs, conducting exercises, and collaborating with stakeholders to enhance the preparedness and effectiveness of response teams in addressing nuclear and radiological incidents. You will also prioritize identifying new areas for contribution within this team, ensuring that your group remains proactive in enhancing response capabilities.
  • Mentorship and professional development will also be a significant part of your responsibilities, as you provide support to team members, helping them grow and develop their skills. You will encourage a culture of continuous learning and improvement, empowering your team to take on new challenges. Each day will present unique challenges that require innovative solutions, and you will leverage your expertise in systems analysis, response strategies, and capacity building to address complex issues related to nuclear and radiological security.

Your role will also involve preparing and presenting reports on departmental activities and outcomes to senior management and stakeholders, effectively communicating the value and impact of your team's work. Staying informed about trends and advancements in global systems analysis, response force engagement, and capacity building will be essential, ensuring that your team remains at the forefront of the field. Ultimately, your work will contribute to meaningful advancements in security and safety on a global scale, allowing you to make a significant impact while working in a dynamic and supportive environment. This role will also require travel, both domestically and internationally.

Due to the nature of work, successful candidate must be able to work onsite.

  • About Our Team

The Global CBRN Security Group is dedicated to advancing our sponsors mission through effective program management and implementation for NNSA's Office of Radiological Security and DTRA's and DOS's Global Chemical and Biological Security (GCBS) initiatives. Our multidisciplinary approach to global CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) security is focused on enhancing international threat reduction by promoting the safe, secure, and responsible use of hazardous CBRN agents. We provide expert technical guidance to the U.S. Government on critical issues, including security system analysis, design, and implementation; agent risk prioritization; outbreak control and management; and information management. Our comprehensive training programs cover biosafety, chemical safety, radiological security, risk awareness, disease surveillance, and diagnostics, ensuring stakeholders are well-prepared to tackle emerging challenges. Through thorough global, regional, and country-specific assessments, we engage in collaborative projects that align U.S. interests with those of foreign nations and international organizations. The Global CBRN Security Group is committed to enhancing global security and advancing nonproliferation efforts, fostering a safer world for all.

    Posting Duration

This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the 'posting date'. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.

    Security Clearance

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment / education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access, both of which require US citizenship. SCI access may also require a polygraph examination. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain these levels of access may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by the DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

    EEO

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status and any other protected class under state or federal law.

    NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
