Basic Function

Kern Community College District accepts applications for part-time, hourly faculty pools on a continuous basis. Qualified applicants may be contacted immediately if a need arises, without the need for re-advertising. Applications remain active for up to two years.

The district is seeking adjunct instructors to teach philosophy courses, which may include day, evening, weekend classes, large classes, distance learning, and various teaching methodologies. Responsibilities include student recruitment, curriculum development, maintaining subject matter currency, and participating in professional activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's in Philosophy OR Bachelor's in Philosophy AND Master's in Humanities or Religious Studies OR possession of a valid credential for full-time teaching in Philosophy at the California Community College level OR equivalent qualifications. Applicants must demonstrate sensitivity to diverse student backgrounds. Degrees must be from accredited institutions; foreign degrees require evaluation.

Knowledge & Abilities

Applicants should demonstrate broad knowledge in philosophy and the ability to work effectively with diverse students and colleagues, develop curriculum, participate in recruitment, communicate effectively, assess student outcomes, and utilize technology.
