Safety Specialist

Ensure that all work environments adhere to safety regulations and practices, promoting a culture of safety within the company. Work to minimize the risk of injuries, accidents, and health hazards on job sites by implementing effective safety measures. This position reports to the Safety Director. Specific responsibilities include but not limited to :

Job Responsibilities :

  • Develop meaningful, lasting relationships with colleagues in the field through the demonstrated care and compassion for their well-being and safety.

o Promote safety best-practices in the industry

o Lead, coach, counsel and role model a safety driven culture

o Work with Project Managers to pre-plan and anticipate potential hazards and develop preventative measures.

  • Serve and uphold the core value of safety by implementing and maintaining Budrovich safety programs.
  • o Conduct safety orientation activities, educating and validating required experience, certifications and licensures

    o Train field crews and employees on safety protocols and expectations

  • Respond in a timely manner to various job sites, addressing incidents with the utmost professionalism and diligence.
  • o Investigate incidents with detail and tact

    o Attend medical / doctor / rehabilitation appointments per opportunity, as necessary

    o Report near misses, injuries, damage to property or other safety-related concerns

    o Practice sound documentation, created thorough inspection, incident, and investigation causal analysis reports and other documentation

  • Perform frequent jobsite visits and audits o Critically assess and evaluate potential hazards
  • o Apply sound risk assessment principles

    o Initiate corrective actions in the moment and document findings

    o Assist with morning huddles and delivery of Toolbox Talks

    o Willing to work in civil construction, industrial and maritime worksites

  • Coordinate with customers and peer safety professionals
  • o Interpret customer safety requirements, developing and adapting safety plans accordingly

    o Post safety communications as needed

    o Work with other trades and peers on jobsites to ensure alignment with Budrovich's safety philosophy and practices.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :

  • Safety experience, preferred
  • Construction safety, preferred
  • Ability to develop relationships and influence with exceptional customer service
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA and MSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards
  • Proficiency in risk assessment and hazard control
  • Ability to mitigate conflict-prone situations and establish buy-in from colleagues
  • Strong organization and writing skills
  • Observant with attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn new, innovative technology
  • Other Requirements :

  • Routine travel to job sites, mostly around the St. Louis area, where there is exposure to hazards typical of a construction site, regularly requiring work boots, hard hat, high visibility vest, eye protection and gloves.
  • Employees are frequently required to walk on uneven surfaces, and occasionally required to kneel, limb, reach, stoop, climb, crouch or crawl.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment and technology such as computers, iPads, and phones.
  • This position requires the ability to lift boxes, small equipment, open file cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary.
  • This position may occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
