Overview
Electrical and controls engineering support and project management for both capital and operations and maintenance projects at Madison Gas and Electric (MGE) power generation facilities.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate with internal and external entities to acquire project scope, schedule, and budget information during project development through project implementation.
- Develop and perform tests designed to acquire data on power plant equipment; analyze test results, submit reports, and provide recommendations for internal review and approval.
- Provide information to outside consultants requesting equipment data to perform power studies for other MG&E Departments.
- Perform or hire outside consultants to perform load flow, arc flash, coordination, and protective settings for generation facilities; assist operations when performing switching operations to move load or de-energize buses or equipment.
- Interface with American Transmission Company to coordinate protective settings, generator testing and ratings; maintain compliance with applicable NERC standards for generation facilities.
- Identify the need for upgrades and improvements to plan electrical and process control systems, applications, and network Digital Control System devices.
- Provide engineering support and project management for capital projects, including project development, technology research, cost estimation, scope identification, bid evaluation, contractor coordination, documentation control, and equipment commissioning.
- Provide troubleshooting skills and techniques to assess, pinpoint, and correct operating problems with plant equipment; provide technical support to resolve equipment maintenance problems.
- Communicate and coordinate with Information Technology (IT) as needed for new control devices, replacements of obsolete devices, hardware lease replacements, software licensing, software patching, and version control of existing device software.
- Conduct studies and tests on process controls equipment, including commissioning, tuning, and testing of PLCs and HMI screen functionality.
- Coordinate training of Energy Production personnel on new control systems and electrical equipment; lead or assist in root cause analysis of plant component failures.
- Assist with power generation facility regulatory compliance tasks; locate, maintain, and update drawings, manuals, and instructions; maintain and improve documentation control and change management standards for process control systems.
Qualifications
Experience in electrical engineering, controls, and related power generation systems; ability to perform power system studies and coordinate with internal teams and external consultants.Knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, protective relay settings, arc flash, and load flow analysis; understanding of NERC standards related to generation facilities.Strong project management skills, including development, bid evaluation, contractor coordination, and documentation control.Ability to interface with IT for control system implementation and software / licensing considerations.Strong trouble-shooting, communication, and documentation capabilities; ability to work with cross-functional teams and meet project milestones.AA / EOE-Minorities / Females / Gender Identity / Sexual Orientation / Disabled / Vets.
