Housekeeping Aid Supervisor
This position is located within Environmental Management Services (EMS) of a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center. The primary purpose of this position is to exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in supporting and performing tasks associated with the EMS goals and objectives.
Major duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to) :
- The position is delegated responsibility for assigning staff for routine and non-routine duties on a daily and a project-by-project basis.
- Non-routine duties require that the position reorganize work schedules efficiently to ensure work is accomplished in a timely manner.
- The position is responsible for the cleaning of all patient areas, corridor spaces throughout Medical Center, Operating Rooms, and all other areas as assigned.
- The position is responsible for assuring the efficient and economical accomplishment of work assignments of subordinates within established policies and schedules set by higher levels of supervision.
- The position plans daily and weekly assignments, scheduling periodic work for areas of responsibility, taking into consideration the availability of personnel and equipment to meet established priorities.
- The position trains staff and ensures that they are using the patient centered care principles in terms of customer service to patients, patients' family members and personnel.
- The position provides on-the-job training for subordinates as individual needs dictate.
- The position schedules regular meetings with staff to make them aware of new procedures or directives.
- The position keeps the supervisor informed as to the condition of staff, unusual occurrences or matters that should be brought to the attention of their supervisor.
- The position keeps subordinates abreast of proper methods, procedures and uses of equipment and supplies; control the use of supplies and equipment to affect cost control within the unit.
- The position may be assigned to conduct in-use testing of equipment and / or supplies, providing feedback in regard to their observations.
- The position ensures all safety regulations and procedures are observed and may on occasion be required to conduct training classes on specific safety issues.
- The position may supervise the daily distribution of uniforms and textiles to the designated areas and persons and ensures record keeping is timely and accurate.
- The position approves leave requests for subordinates, counsels' employees, and recommends disciplinary action to a higher-level supervisor whenever non-compliance with policy warrants.
- The position makes formal appraisal of subordinates works performance and conduct.
- The position is responsible for the coordination of activities with other services, including rearranging work schedules during remodeling, painting and relocation of offices, clinics or patient wards and other duties which help coordinate moves.
- The position routinely inspects assigned areas to assure the timely accomplishment of employee assignments, sanitation levels are maintained, equipment properly cared for and that associated housekeeping objectives are accomplished in an expedient and timely manner.
- The position is responsible for the quality inspection of assigned areas, recording discrepancies in cleanliness, needed maintenance repairs, broken or inadequately stored furnishings and equipment.
- Provides documented inspection reports and acts on unaccomplished work.
- The position is responsible for the removal of furniture in need of repair and / or replacement along with the initiation of an electronic work request.
- The position is responsible for the review of procedures, methods and sequence of tasks performed by employees under their supervision.
- The position performs within established guidelines, operating procedures and department and Medical Center policy.
- Receives general supervision and instructions from the supervisor.
- The position works independently following up on all work assignments to ensure that established procedures, work assignments and safety standards are being properly applied and adjusting as necessary.
- The position ensures time and attendance records are accurate and complete prior to submission to timekeeper.
- The position keeps immediate supervisor apprised of actual or potential problems and recommends remedial corrective actions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
