The General Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at Banner University Medical Center -BUMC - Phoenix (1111 E McDowell Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85006) provides a solid cardiac foundation that creates an outstanding cardiac nursing assistant who can leverage this experience to advance in areas such as the Intensive Care Units (ICU), Emergency Department (ED) and Operating Room (OR). The General PCU is a 60-bed Cardiac Progressive Care Unit. The General Cardiac PCU caters to patients who require close monitoring and frequent assessment. Typical patients in our PCU may include those recovering from surgery, stable cardiac conditions, respiratory illnesses requiring non-invasive ventilation, or those transitioning from the ICU who still need significant medical oversight. These patients often require specialized nursing care, advanced monitoring, and sometimes complex medication regimens to ensure a smooth recovery and prevent complications. Ratios on this unit are 1 : 4. For PCAs, it will either be a 1 : 12 or 1 : 15 ratio depending on the patient census. PCU Patient Care Assistants are highly recruited for their critical thinking skills, which are developed through the acuity of patients we care for.
As a BUMC-Phoenix Cardiac General PCU Patient Care Assistant-PCA, you will provide routine patient care to promote patient comfort and contribute to the overall patient plan of care. As the ideal candidate, you will be responsible for on-going patient data collection and documentation in the medical records and provide a variety of unit support functions which contribute to the overall efficient operation of the nursing unit / department. POSITION SUMMARY This position provides routine patient care to promote patient comfort and contribute to the overall patient plan of care. CORE FUNCTIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma / GED or equivalent working knowledge. Current BLS certification is required. Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in state of practice is required for new hires and transfers. In Tucson : Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in state of practice is required for new hires. Existing Tucson incumbents may not transfer out of their geographical market without meeting the CNA requirement. Requires skills and abilities typically attained with 1 year of medical clerical experience; preferably in a hospital or physician office setting, or prior experience in customer service. Must possess excellent organizational skills, as well as effective human relations and communication skills. Working knowledge of medical terminology and computer literacy and keyboarding skills is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS In Arizona the Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) licensure is preferred. Recent healthcare experience preferred. Successful completion of an approved unit secretary program is preferred. Additional related education and / or experience preferred.
