The Cure Violence Bronx Violence Interrupter Supervisor works with program staff, community residents, businesses, and community-based organizations of all types to implement strategies to reduce and prevent shootings and killings in selected “hot spot” areas within the Bronx 47th Precinct, which comprises Woodlawn, Wakefield, Williamsbridge, Baychester, Edenwald, Olinville, and Fishbay. The Violence Interrupter Supervisor assists the Program Director in coordinating regular mobilization and public education activities, as well as supervising other program staff and conducting community outreach.

Location : East 233rd Street, Bronx, NY
Salary : $55,600.00 - 60,600.00 / Yr.
Major Duties :
- Supervises Hospital Responders and Violence Interrupters, including planning daily and weekly activities for and with staff, to ensure staff are present in the right places and at the right times to intervene effectively in Jacobi Hospital and on the street.
- With the Program Director and staff team, review shootings and other significant violent occurrences to plan immediate community response and other appropriate interventions.
- Investigate the causes of shootings / killings to assist in mediating situations and preventing retaliation between individuals and groups.
- Conduct outreach to the community and Jacobi Hospital (individually and as a team member) to build strong relationships with young people, residents, businesses, and community groups, including communities of faith and agencies providing services within the catchment area.
- Represent the program at all relevant community and Jacobi Hospital meetings and mobilize all to develop coordinated anti-gun / anti-violence messaging.
- With the Program Director, organize and lead regular mobilization activities within the community, including response to individual shootings, rallies, planning and coordination meetings, and public education activities.
- Assist the Program Director in engaging, motivating, and coordinating the efforts of core and other volunteers.
- Assist the Program Director in the development and distribution of public education materials, including flyers, posters, stickers, and social media postings to promulgate a “no guns, no shootings” message.
- Work with the community, Jacobi Hospital, other outreach programs, and local law enforcement to gain information that may help prevent further violence.
- Document all work, including shootings and acts of violence prevented, case notes, referrals using the DOHMH-approved database, plus coordinate and review staff documentation.
- Identify youth who are gang members and those at risk for joining gangs and intervene in their lives through case management to aid in solving current problems and preventing future ones.
- Provide clients with support and linkages to community programs and opportunities (e.g., job training, GED, drug treatment, and mentoring).
- Attend meetings with law enforcement, prosecution, probation, and agencies such as community boards, providing opportunities to coordinate efforts to reduce violence.
- Maintain regular participation in meetings coordinated by the MOCJ-OPGV, DOHMH, and GSS internal meetings as required.
- Assure that the program is informed by and its staff trained in trauma-informed practice (TIP), which may include adoption of the Sanctuary Model of TIP.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
