General Summary
Utilizes the nursing process to assess plan implement and evaluate comprehensive care. Primary responsibilities include direct patient care patient / family teaching symptom management counseling and supportive role to assist the patients and their families. May require specialized skills depending on location / unit / specialty assignment.
Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides general nursing care and personal care assistance to patients.
- Writes initial nursing histories assesses patients conditions and develops individual care plans for patients.
- Carries out physician orders such as administering prescribed medications or treatments preparing an operating room order lab tests x-rays etc...
- Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning. Monitors and restocks supplies.
- Assists provider during examinations non-operative and operative procedures.
- Maintains aseptic techniques; actively monitors situations which could lead to breaches in aseptic technique.
- Assists in patient care related activities such as changes dressings cleans wounds monitors vital signs starting IV solutions and inserting tubes.
- Provides health care instruction / education to patient and family members.
- Performs a variety of nursing administrative duties.
- Prepares and maintains records of patient charges.
- Variation of duties may result based on the assigned customer care unit(s). This may include differences in the specific clinical skills required of the RN. Unit based skill lists outline expectations beyond the house wide RN requirements. - In addition to requirements specified in the license and certification section below current BLS certification for all areas of nursing practice is required.
- Current certification may be required for the following areas of nursing practice :
- Emergency Care Center ACLS PALS
- Intensive Care Center & MSCC Lead ACLS PALS
- L&D ACLS NRP - Experienced L&D nurses will obtain within 6 months and new L&D nurses will obtain at 1 year of experience
- NICU NRP
- PEDS PALS
- PCC / PACU / ENDO ACLS PALS
- Procedural ACLS
