Job Title :

Cybersecurity Engineer

Location :

Remote (4-5 month contract)

Duties & Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead the deployment and configuration of the Squirrel Defender software across multiple USACE network environments.
  • Customize the tool to align with USACE security policies, standards, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Integrate Squirrel Defender with existing cybersecurity tools and network monitoring systems.
  • Establish and maintain automated scanning protocols to detect security control vulnerabilities.
  • Analyze findings and prioritize vulnerabilities based on risk and impact to the organization.
  • Coordinate with IT and security teams to remediate identified vulnerabilities promptly.
  • Configure near, real-time monitoring capabilities to detect and respond to potential threats.
  • Implement network traffic analysis and endpoint security measures to ensure comprehensive coverage.
  • Maintain an ongoing assessment of the network's security posture and adjust monitoring strategies as needed.
  • Develop and implement automated response actions for detected threats.
  • Collaborate with incident response teams to manage security events and conduct investigations.
  • Prepare detailed incident reports and follow-up on remediation efforts.
  • Ensure the Squirrel Defender operates in compliance with DoD regulations, including NIST SP 800-53 series, FISMA, and NETCOM internal security policies.
  • Continuously review and update security policies and configurations to reflect the latest standards and practices.
  • Create and manage dashboards and visualization tools for real-time reporting on security status.
  • Generate comprehensive reports detailing vulnerability assessments, compliance status, and remediation activities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of configurations, protocols, and procedures.

Minimum Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of expertise in cybersecurity, with hands-on experience with a focus on vulnerability management and network security.
  • Relevant cybersecurity certifications one or more such as CISSP, ISSEP, CISM, CEH, CRISC, CISA, OSCP, CCSP, or GSEC are required.
  • Secret Clearance
  • Prior experience in implementing and managing security solutions in large, complex environments, preferably within the defense or government sectors.
  • Skilled technical professionals to implement the Squirrel Defender (SD) software, which provides continuous security control vulnerability monitoring and remediation of the network infrastructure environment, providing near-real-time cybersecurity operations solutions 24x7x365. The ideal candidates must have a strong background in cybersecurity, network infrastructure, and system integration, compliance, and vulnerability management expertise along with specific experience in deploying and continuously managing advanced security solutions.
  • Expertise in deploying and configuring advanced cybersecurity tools and software.
  • Strong understanding of network infrastructure, including firewalls, routers, switches, and endpoint devices.
  • Experience with automated scanning tools, threat detection systems, and incident response protocols.
  • Strong understanding of security technologies including firewalls, IDS / IPS, SIEM, endpoint protection, and vulnerability management tools. Proficiency in programming and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Java, C++, PowerShell, etc.).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other departments.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, optemp and dynamic environment.
  • Hands-on experience with current security tools and technologies and understanding of key cybersecurity network and vulnerability management trends and solutioning.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements, including but not limited to, NIST, FISMA, and other DoD-specific guidelines.
