Position : Registered Nurse – Operating Room (OR)

Facility : Barrett Hospital & HealthCare

Department : Surgical Services / Operating Room

Shift : Monday–Friday, varied hours

Schedule : 4x10-hour shifts with call required

Guaranteed Hours : 34 hours / week (holiday weeks exempt)

Contract Length : 91 days (13 weeks)

Position Overview

The Operating Room RN provides comprehensive perioperative care to surgical patients in a rural hospital setting. The nurse will assist in all phases of surgery—pre-op, intra-op, and post-op—and collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia, and surgical technologists to ensure safe and effective procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures.
  • Maintain strict sterile field and follow aseptic technique.
  • Anticipate surgeon needs and ensure proper instrumentation and supplies are available.
  • Monitor patient condition, vital signs, and anesthesia responses throughout procedures.
  • Perform instrument counts and verify accuracy to ensure patient safety.
  • Document intraoperative care accurately in EMR.
  • Assist with room turnover, equipment setup, and restocking as needed.
  • Participate in call rotation for after-hours surgical cases and emergencies.

    • Requirements

  • Active RN license (state or compact, as applicable)
  • Minimum 2 years recent OR experience preferred
  • BLS and ACLS certifications (current and valid)
  • Strong knowledge of surgical asepsis , safety protocols, and instrumentation
  • Ability to work flexible hours and take required call shifts
