Summary : Under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor and Medical Assistant Lead the Certified Medical Assistant works with the practicing Medical Provider assisting in the daily patient care duties of assessment, treatment, and patient education in the clinic setting. Prepares medications for in-office procedures, performs bandage / dressing changes, suture removal, brace fitting, cast removal under the specific and direct supervision of the practicing Medical Provider. Also, performs clerical and receptionist duties as assigned. Maintains a working relationship with the registration, business office, other clinical office staff, and Providers of Klamath Orthopedic Clinic.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Conduct initial medical history screening, blood pressure, current allergies, and medications; accurately document in patient’s medical chart and complete all Meaningful Use measures according to clinical standards.
- Conduct wound care (suture / staple removal) following OSHA standards
- Must show competency in applying various DME and splints / braces.
- Assist patients in scheduling follow-up appointments; prepare orders for labs and various other diagnostic studies.
- Promptly address and resolve patient messages and / or phone calls; document all phone and face-to-face conversations in the patient’s record.
- Maintain and clean patient exam rooms between patients to ensure patients’ comfort and safety according to protocols and in compliance with infection control standards; ensure all necessary supplies are stocked.
- Complete administrative and clinical tasks that ensure the efficient operation of the clinic.
- Perform administrative and other tasks in support of patient care and to ensure efficient operation of the clinic and as directed by the Clinical Manager, Clinical Supervisor, and / or Medical Assistant Lead, including but not limited to answering phones, photocopying, faxing, completing forms, etc.

- Process and prepare the patient for assessment and treatment, by the medical provider, in a timely manner.
- Clean, maintain and care for instruments, equipment, and all work areas.
- Prepare and send approved prescriptions, under the direction of the medical provider, to pharmacies or patients.
- Accurately prepare injections, under the direction of the medical provider.
- This position requires clinical orthopedic knowledge and terminology.
- Reviewing medical histories, current allergies, and medications, following HIPPA standards.
- Assist patients on the phone as needed when the physician is not present.
- Telephone counseling of patients under the direct supervision of the medical provider.
- Accurately document all care / education provided to the patient.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Candidate must pass Urine Analysis and criminal background check.

Education / Experience :
High School Diploma or GED and two years related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Ability :
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to patients, physicians, manager of department, etc.
Reasoning Ability :
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Computer Skills :
Knowledge of modern office equipment, systems, and procedures, including computer skills and type efficiently; an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; Internet software; Order processing systems; Knowledge of medical software is a plus.
Work Environment :
This is a fast-paced environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is working in a typical office environment.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE :
Prior orthopedic experience in a medical office.Certified Medical Assistant highly preferred.If not certified, must pass OBR-OE within 2 years of employment. (Training provided)
