Job Title : In-House Counsel Reports to : CEO

Department : Legal

Job Summary

Counsel is responsible for ensuring that the company operates according to the highest ethical, legal, and compliance standards. Counsel is responsible for underwriting, responding to claims, and managing contracts. This position is also responsible for training on underwriting and legal matters, and auditing files. General Counsel also oversees the day-to-day operations of the legal department. This position advises and supports the CEO and Principal Owner in decision making and advising on policy and operations matters.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Respond to internal underwriting questions from all departments
• Responds to external underwriting questions as needed for insurability
• Draft legal documents and forms for use in production
• Oversee the drafting of file related legal documents
• Track licenses for all employees
• Keep current on legislation impacting the business
• Prepare and conduct training on underwriting and compliance matters
• Reviews real estate files for compliant underwriting procedures and documents any deficiencies
• Present audit findings to managers quarterly
• Prepares audit for Indiana Department of Revenue
