Salary and Benefits :

Starting Salary for Corrections Detention Deputy is $45,000.00 annually.The employee benefits include retirement benefits under the Florida Retirement System (FRS), medical, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, leave accrual and paid holidays. Voluntary benefits are also available.

Job Summary :

Corrections Detention Deputies are responsible for processing, supervising activities and general care of detainees. Performs corrections duties including : monitoring adults in a secure facility; enforce rules and keep order, de-escalateand respondto emergencies within the jail facility; preventing disturbances, assaults and escapes. Provideand maintaina safe and secure environment.

New hires complete 4 weeks in the Detention Training and Evaluation Program (DTEP). This is one-on-one training with a certified Field Training Officer and ensures that all new detention deputies are fully prepared for their position.

Applicants must have ability to.... utilize effective communication skills both verbally and in writing; read and comprehend information; speak clearly; prepare written reports; print legibly; follow directions; detect smells; operate radio equipment; Respond quickly and exercise sound judgment under conditions of danger, confusion, and personal affront; maintain cooperative and responsible attitude toward co-workers and the general public and demonstrate ethical and professional behavior.

At a minimum, successful applicants must meet the following qualifications :

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

The work environment is mostly within the confined setting of the Wakulla County Sheriff's Office jail facility. This position generally works 12 hour shifts (days or nights) with rotating days off. Potential contact with hostile individuals, direct inmate contact, exposure to emergency situations, exposure to trauma and grief,noise, chemicals, bodily secretions, in general. Frequent face-to-face interactions and possible interactions with angry, hostile, depressed and / or otherwise emotionally distraught members of the public. As a result of such, the work requires quick, independent action and alertness in emergency and possibly life-threatening situations. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may encounter the following : irregular or extended work hours, irregular eating and sleeping schedules,contact with blood, bodily fluids, and infectious or contagious diseases.
