KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Your experience as a military dentist will be unparalleled, giving you the chance to work in top-tier dental facilities on land, at sea, and in diverse environments. Responsibilities may include:

• Delivering basic dental care to service members and their families, covering checkups, fillings, and preventive services
• Utilizing advanced dental technologies, such as digital X-ray systems and innovative restoration materials
• Engaging in community outreach to support the young, elderly, and underserved populations
• Participating in humanitarian missions to extend oral healthcare to those in need across the globe

WORK ENVIRONMENT

As a military dentist, you could serve at one of over 250 Navy medical facilities worldwide, including high-profile National Naval Medical Centers. Potential placements range from hospitals in San Diego, CA, to the USNS Comfort and USNS Mercy hospital ships. You could also provide dental support on various naval vessels and with operations on land.

TRAINING & ADVANCEMENT

After completing dental school, you'll attend Officer Development School in Newport, RI, to gain valuable insight into military standards, leadership, and etiquette. Your initial duty may involve working in a multi-speciality dental clinic or a large teaching hospital.

Advanced Training Opportunities

As you advance in your career, you’ll become eligible to pursue specialized training in Administration, Clinical Training, Operational Training, and Education, with opportunities to become an expert in fields like Endodontics or Orthodontics, requiring a commitment of additional years of training post-dental school.
