PSM Engineer

Basic Function

HF Sinclair Woods Cross Refining LLC, located in West Bountiful, Utah, is seeking a PSM Engineer. This position provides support to SCRC concerning PSM compliance and refinery-wide Process Safety. This position alsoprovides support for contractor onboarding and incident investigation.

Job Duties

(functions considered essential as defined by ADA)

• Provides support to facility personnel to increase understanding of process safety elements and procedures, in order to promote effective implementation of the PSM program
• Monitors performance to ensure that process safety goals are achieved
• Participates in risk assessment studies, process hazard analysis, and layers-of-protection analysis evaluations
• Supports the Management of Change and Pre-Startup Safety Review programs
• Monitors / tracks all capital and expense budget items associated to the PSM Dept
• Coordinates and track flare and relief system improvements
• Coordinates and facilitate incident investigations
• Works with Process Safety Department to assist in developing and implementing procedures and programs to ensure compliance with company policies and guidelines, government regulations, and industry standards
• Tracks and completes all open PSM items in a timely manner, also be a resource to other employees to get their items completed on time
• Monitors industry trends to assure that the Refinery is up to date with industry
• Acts as a Process Safety champion, promoting a strong process safety culture within the organization

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

Experience

Some on-the-job work experience is preferred. A strong understanding of basic refinery processes and the elements of process safety is required for Process Safety Engineering discipline.

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Chemical or Mechanical) or Bachelor's Degree in another field with 5+ years experience working in a Refinery.

Required Skills

Ability to influence people outside of direct reporting structure. Intermediate level of knowledge of OSHA PSM regulations and critical Process Safety activity. Working knowledge of Microsoft products. Working knowledge of science, basic refinery operations, maintenance and engineering practices. Advanced verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Goal-oriented and organized.

PREFERRED SKILLS : Working knowledge of all aspects of Process Safety Management and Incident Investigation techniques.

Supervisory / Managerial Responsibility

May be responsible for supervising contractors depending on assignment.

Work Conditions

Office and plant based with up to 10% travel required. Subject to varying weather conditions and required to work in all temperatures, including outdoors.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs, climbing up to 200 ft, perceive color differences, required to wear personal protective equipment as needed and a respirator in emergency situations (beards are not permitted). Depending on location must satisfactorily complete a comprehensive medical physical examination. Job conditions may require twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping, and working in confined spaces as permitted.
