Must-Have : Ability to transfuse blood, wound vac changes, and manage PCA pumps

Description :

This position is for a registered nurse specializing in medical surgical care.

The unit has 27 beds with a nurse-patient ratio of 1 : 5 during the day and 1 : 6 at night, with maximums of 6 and 7 respectively.

Common diagnoses include post-operative orthopedic procedures such as knee and hip replacements, fractures, and general surgeries like appendectomies and cholecystectomies.

Nurses will manage heparin drips as per protocol.

Charge nurses are present on each shift, with the daytime charge not taking an assignment, while the night charge may handle a small patient load.

Patient Care Technicians assist on the unit with tasks such as bathing patients and taking vital signs.

Respiratory Therapy equipment is managed by RTs, and nurses will troubleshoot equipment as necessary.

There are no monitor technicians; nurses do not read their own EKG strips, which are interpreted by monitoring staff and provided for review.

Shifts run from 7 AM to 7 PM for nurses and 6 AM to 6 PM for Patient Care Technicians.

Self-scheduling is not permitted, but staff preferences are taken into account when creating schedules.

Every other weekend and holiday rotation may be required.

Floating to other units may occur based on staffing needs, with rotation managed by charge nurses.

Nursing staff is expected to wear navy blue or white scrubs, while other staff may wear specific colors.

Scrubs are not provided.

Unit-specific orientation consists of 1 day with an educator and up to 2 days with a preceptor.

The charting system used in this unit is Cerner.
