Job Title : Therapeutic Pre School Teacher
Monday - Friday 8 : 45am - 5 : 15pm
Pay : $20-$22 / hr
Definition and Primary Objective : Responsible for providing early education and therapeutic supports for preschool children with behavioral and / or emotional challenges. As a part of CoStars Therapeutic Childcare Classroom, this position is also responsible for leading a teaching team, collaborating with early childhood mental health staff, creating a responsive preschool environment, and implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum tailored towards individual children and the classroom as a whole. This includes administering developmental assessments, creating student transition plans, implementing social and emotional strategies, communicating with parents and co-workers and providing a healthy and safe environment for children.
Minimum Education, Experience and Other Skill Requirements :
- Minimum of a CDA or Associates degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or related field from an accredited college or university; Bachelor’s degree preferred. Will accept education and work experience that meets requirements for Career Pathways Level (CPL) 3 as outlined by Ohio’s Early Childhood Professional Development Network
- Direct teaching experience in an early education or Head Start environment required
- Must have strong knowledge of social and emotional development and developmentally appropriate practices for preschoolers
- Must be flexible in work schedule, responsibilities and physically capable of performing the job of a teacher of young children
- Must be open to new ideas and strategies in order to improve work performance.
- Must possess minimum technical skills including familiarity with Microsoft Windows and ability to use standard Microsoft Office applications

Administers developmental assessments such as the DECA, Galileo and Ages and Stages assessments.Supervises and interacts with children daily, supporting and encouraging all developmental, social, and educational aspects of the children’s development within the context of the child’s family, culture, and individualized needs.Maintains safe environment that is age appropriate for young children. Provides classroom supports to children through individualized / small group educational and behavioral assistance.Supports the development and execution of age appropriate lesson plans aligned with State Standards and Accreditation Standards.Takes appropriate action to facilitate cognitive, motor, social, emotional, and intellectual development within the context of the young child’s family, culture and individualized needs. Implements targeted strategies to address gaps in children’s social and emotional development.Effectively implements trauma-informed practices and strategies for promoting children’s social emotional competence.Promotes quality within program areas and identifies appropriate action plans to accurately reflect and promote resolution of identified challenges.Provides a balance between child-initiated and teacher-initiated activities.Works with assistant teachers in the classroom to develop and implement age appropriate lesson plans. Models and ensures that teaching staff follows the structure of the program and model developmentally appropriate practice.Monitors program quality targets and works with supervisor develop plan to support target achievement.Is involved in their own individual learning and professional development related to RCFP. [Accepts suggestions from the Professional Development Coach and implements suggested strategies, as well as complete all required trainings. – Demonstration Classroom OnlyAttends agency training or professional seminars / conferences as required or necessary in order to maintain compliance with program regulations and to increase professional knowledge and skill base.Work Environment : Exposed to a combination of office, school and mental health treatment environments. Exposed to children with behavior problems. May be exposed to shouting and clients who may be verbally and physically aggressive. May be exposed to blood or vomit and bodily fluids.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to : sit, stand, walk, bend and lift up to 50 pounds. Must be capable of sustained exertion and be able to participate in the physical restraint techniques and exercises required to ensure the safety of clients at all times.
