Academy Applied Academic Program Instructor
Reports To : Academy Applied Academic Program Coordinator
Job Status : Exempt
Job Summary :
Provide life and workforce skills instruction for adults 18 and older who have a developmental disability and or Autism and prepare them for effective independent living and securing a sustainable competitive wage within the community they wish to work, live and grow. Will use ANL curriculum, prepare classroom materials, attend conferences, assist with specials projects and extracurricular activities; and participate in the assessment and placement of students.
Essential Functions
- Highly developed organizational, time management, human relations and interpersonal communication and writing skills; self-motivated, flexible, and creative.
- Experience with planning, creating, and coordinating applied academic and vocational activities.
- Help train and guide Paraprofessionals.
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge of and experience in teaching life and workforce development skills and ability to draft and execute lesson plans.
- Instruct students via ANL curriculum using current instructional strategies appropriate to the subject matter to assure highest quality classroom instruction.
- Effectively manage the classroom to create an optimal learning environment, and strong technology skills.
- Maintain up-to-date records of student attendance, academic progress and grades as required by district policy and certification / regulatory agencies.
- Ensure supply list and learning plans are current prior to each class taught.
- Able to multi-task and solve problems.
- Develop and implement staff schedule.
- Able to upload and implement, including afternoon vocational classes.
- Able to utilize assistive technologies.
- Maintain and evaluate individual and collective applied academic statistics and reporting documents.
- Ensures the development, accuracy and completeness of incident reports.
- Case Management.
- Counsel students related to life matters.
- Knowledgeable in handling crisis and medical emergency situations within a classroom or other learning environment(s), as it relates to I / DD and Autism.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, guidelines, and standards in the areas of applied academics and vocational training to ensure a safe learning environment.
- Provides transportation when necessary.
- Assist with quarterly academy assemblies and graduation.
- Work closely with Applied Academic Program Coordinator and Work-Based Learning Staff.
- Ability to be flexible and complete tasks as unforeseen events arise.
- Model, mentor, and motivate the value of appropriate and effective independent living standards and workforce success.
Requirements : Qualifications
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college / university in special education, education, sociology, behavior analysis, vocational rehabilitation, psychology, human or social services ( Special Education Teaching Certification or related field, preferred ).3 or more years of work experience in teaching in a special education classroom (preferred).3 or more years of clinical experience working directly and successfully with adults having autism spectrum disorder or other developmental disabilities ( preferred ).Operating knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word SuitesPossession of a valid driver’s license.Ability to stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time.Light to moderate lifting.Special Requirements :

Of Title 56 of the Oklahoma statues, House Bill 1790, any prospective employee with a felony or misdemeanor conviction, guilty plea or plea of nolo contendere will not be eligible for employment.
