Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg position offering night shifts and requiring telemetry interpretation skills with an active WV or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

  • Position is in an acute care, 21-bed Med / Surg unit
  • Patient population includes CHF, COPD, DM, HTN, post-op ortho, and laparoscopic cholecystectomy cases
  • Average unit census is 15–16 patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 : 5, with occasional 1 : 6
  • Telemetry monitoring is frequent with RNs responsible for reading their own strips
  • Unit is equipped with CPAP and telemetry monitoring equipment
  • Uses EpicCare Inpatient EMR
  • 12-hour night shifts with weekend shifts as needed
  • Block scheduling may be allowed but is not guaranteed
  • No on-call or floating required
  • Team nursing model supported by Patient Care Techs
  • Day and night charges do not take patient assignments but assist with admissions and discharges
  • Orientation includes meeting with HR and Epic training if needed
  • No titration of drips required, but set rate heparin drips may be managed
  • Any color scrubs are permitted
  • Former permanent staff of Potomac Valley, Princeton Community, or Garrett Regional are ineligible to return as travelers
  • Travelers may only work within WVU facilities for up to one year before a required two-year break
  • No previous Med / Surg experience at WVU within the last two years permitted for returning travelers
  • First day involves HR orientation and system training

    • Requirements

  • Active WV or compact RN license required
  • Minimum 2 years of Med / Surg nursing experience
  • Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
  • Proficiency in dysrhythmia reading is required
  • Experience with Epic EMR preferred
  • Must comply with a 50-mile radius rule for eligibility
  • Copy of a valid, unexpired driver’s license required for consideration
