Job descriptionAdminister, configure, and maintain Unix / Linux operating systems and server environments. Perform system installation, upgrades, and patch management to ensure compliance and stability. Manage system backups, disaster recovery processes, and data integrity measures. Implement and maintain security controls, including user access management and vulnerability remediation. Monitor system performance and resource utilization, performing tuning and optimization as needed. Troubleshoot complex issues involving hardware, software, and network configurations. Support and maintain commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and custom software applications. Oversee system resource allocation and capacity planning to support evolving operational requirements. Utilize network security tools such as firewalls, intrusion detection / prevention systems, and vulnerability scanners. Identify, assess, and mitigate computing and networking vulnerabilities using current detection and defense methods. Document system configurations, procedures, and maintenance logs in accordance with DoD standards. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior administrators and IT personnel. Six (6) years of professional experience in Unix and / or Linux system administration. Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or similar discipline is highly desired. Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level III certification is required. Experience managing system backup and recovery operations, security configurations, and software management. Proficiency in installation, configuration, and maintenance of hardware and operational software. Skilled in system performance tuning, troubleshooting, and resource allocation across diverse environments. Knowledge of TCP / IP and major network security tools, including firewalls and intrusion detection systems. Understanding of network vulnerabilities, attack methods, and modern detection and defense techniques. Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills in both hardware and software environments. - The individual is responsible for maintaining, configuring, securing, and optimizing complex computing systems to ensure maximum performance, reliability, and availability.
- This role requires a deep understanding of Unix / Linux operating systems, network protocols, security management, and troubleshooting methodologies.
