Job Description
The Accounting Manager will play a key role on the client’s finance team, overseeing financial analysis, budgeting, and the financial components of grant management. This position partners closely with department directors and the grants manager to support program operations, ensure fiscal accuracy, and drive revenue growth. The Accounting Manager will maintain compliance with GAAP standards and assist with the annual external audit process.
Financial Planning & Analysis
Support the development of the organization’s annual budget and conduct ongoing financial analysis.
Enter and maintain the approved budget within the accounting system.
Meet regularly with leadership and department heads to review actual performance, update forecasts, and analyze financial results.
Prepare quarterly financial analysis reports for the Finance Committee and additional analyses as needed.
Provide monthly profit and loss commentary for leadership review.
Accounting Operations
Ensure that all accounting policies and procedures comply with GAAP.
Partner with senior finance leaders to ensure :
Accurate and timely posting of journal entries.
Proper revenue and expense recognition at month-, quarter-, and year-end.
Correct allocations and intercompany transactions.
Thorough documentation of all journal entries for audit readiness.
Perform quarterly balance sheet reconciliations and prepare exhibits for external auditors.
Grants Management
Collaborate with the grants manager to prepare grant budgets, financial reports, and required documentation.
Review and manage the financial aspects of all new and recurring grant requests.
Track all grant reporting deadlines and ensure timely submission of accurate financial information.
Maintain complete and organized backup documentation for all grants in accordance with grant requirements.
Revenue & Receivables
Support cash collections and accounts receivable processes.
Conduct monthly aging reviews for client and third-party fees.
Reconcile the accounting system with the donor database to ensure accurate tracking of sponsorships, grants, and receivables.
Assist in collection efforts, including follow-up and invoicing as necessary.
Other Duties
Contribute to process improvements, special projects, and other assignments as needed.
Employees using personal vehicles for work must maintain valid insurance, driver’s license, and registration.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, ideally beginning in public accounting or audit.
Experience with nonprofit accounting and reporting strongly preferred.
CPA certification preferred.
