Director of Board Relations & Strategy, Division of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement

The Director of Board Relations & Strategy serves as a strategic advisor and governance strategist to the Vice President for Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement (VP), with oversight of board operations. The Director will work in coordination with the Senior Associate Vice President for Development (SAVP) to align Board of Trustees (BOT) engagement with the comprehensive campaign strategy. This strategic leadership role will work closely with the VP and is responsible for strengthening board governance and fostering high-level BOT engagement in alignment with institutional objectives and campaign priorities. As a trusted advisor to the VP, the Director also leads cross-functional special projects that advance innovative and mission-critical initiatives.

As Secretary to the Board, the Director ensures transparency and compliance. Upon appointment by the University President, the Director serves as the Secretary of the Corporation (UNLV Foundation) with the responsibility of ensuring compliance with all applicable NRS open meeting law requirements. This position oversees all aspects of governance and operations for the UNLV Foundation BOT and provides support and guidance to the university's affiliated foundations, including the collection and submission of required NSHE deliverables, maintaining ongoing compliance and governance excellence. Acting as the primary liaison and concierge for trustees, the Director fosters high-level engagement through strategic communication, proactive outreach, and coordinated campus involvement. This position plays a key role in elevating board performance, enhancing philanthropic partnerships, and supporting efforts that further institutional and campaign objectives. The Director collaborates with BOT committees and their chairs, and staff liaisons, to drive board engagement, succession planning, new member onboarding, annual board dues solicitation, and the cultivation of future board leaders.

The Director is responsible for the direct supervision of one employee.

Minimum Qualifications

This position requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and / or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and five to seven years of related experience. A minimum of three to five years of supervisory experience is required. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.
