VCA Advanced Veterinary Care Center is looking to add a Veterinary Assistant to our ER / ICU team! Location : 7712 Crosspoint Commons, Fishers, IN 46038 Schedule : FT Days M-Th Compensation : $15 - $16 / hr The starting range for technicians is determined by license, skill set, and years of experience in the field
Responsibilities / Skills :
- Patient restraint & handlinggentle, species appropriate restraint for nervous, painful, and / or neurological patients for venipuncture, IV catheter placement, blood draws, radiographs, etc.
- Handling neurologic patients safely, awareness of spinal precautions
- Gentle, minimal-restraint techniques for sensitive eye cases (careful restraint to avoid ocular pressure)
- Pre-anesthetic preparationclipping and scrubbing surgical sites, ensuring cleanliness and correct anatomical margins
- Laboratory sample handlingcollecting and labeling blood, urine, or CSF samples properly
- Understand sterile technique and surgical suite flow for surgery, neurology, and ophthalmology departments
- Knowledge of common surgical and ophthalmic instrumentscleanliness, maintenance, and sterilization process
- Sterilization of specialized equipment and instruments
- Autoclave maintenance
- EO gas sterilization safety and operation
- Maintaining aseptic and sterile conditions in ORs and sterile hallway
- Maintain aseptic conditions in prep and holding areas
- Proper disinfection of tables, instruments, and kennels
- Biohazard and sharps disposal compliance
- Team coordinationcommunicating with technicians, surgeons, and anesthetists to ensure readiness
- Time managementprepping multiple patients efficiently while maintaining safety and cleanliness
- Compassion and patience with anxious pets
- Calmness under pressure and adaptability in a fast-paced setting
- Receptive to feedback and able to follow detailed instructions precisely
- Strong teamwork and communication with technicians and DVMs
