Medical Assistant (Temporary Position 90 Days)

Hourly Wage : $24.44 / Temporary / Full -Time
Provides a variety of technical, clerical, receptionist, and patient care service under the supervision of Registered Nurse or Health Care Provider. Support Health Care Provider and other members of health care team by contacting and scheduling patients, performing patient intakes, therapeutic interventions as ordered by Health Care Provider, and scheduling follow up visits / arranging referrals to outside facilities as deemed necessary by Health Care Provider. Serves and protects patients by adhering to professional standards, clinic policies and procedures, and federal, state and local requirements.
Examples of Work Performed :
Helps patients by providing information, services, and assistance.
Verifies patient information by interviewing patient, recording medical history, and confirming purpose of visit.
Prepares patients for examination by performing exam room cleaning and preliminary patient intake measures such : taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; and reporting patient history summary and documenting in Electronic Health Record.
Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; and keeping patient information confidential.
Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with federal, state, and local legal regulations.
Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying receipt.
Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
Serves and protects the practice by adhering to professional standards.
Enhances practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Participate in Pre-visit planning for scheduled patients and documents information / patient care on the patient's ambulatory care record and / or electronic health record.
Participates in scheduling procedures and / or coordinating lab and diagnostics tests and referrals for services.
Collects and prepares laboratory specimens.
Performs basic CLIA waved laboratory tests.
Give patients injections or medications as directed by Health Care Provider and as permitted by state law.
Verifies completion of referral forms with times and of appointments.
Other duties as assigned by Supervisor and requested by Health Care Provider.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Knowledge of answering medical telephones, receiving patients, utilizing electronic health record.
Knowledge of vital signs for pediatric and adult patients.
Knowledge of removing and applying wound dressings as directed.
Knowledge of preparing and restocking exam rooms, ensuring general cleanliness of exam rooms.
Knowledge of how to maintain infection control with regard to using autoclave and cleaning instruments.
Knowledge of Health Services management and HIPAA.
Skilled with utilizing diagnostic tools such as a stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, peak flow meter, glucometer, etc. to obtain vitals.
Skilled in administrating oral medication, performs subcutaneous and intramuscular injections under direct supervision of a licensed health care professional.
Skilled in providing pre-treatment, treatment, and post-treatment evaluation of patients to include patient screening, evaluation of vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, and other intake and clinical assessment procedures.
Ability to assist the provider during exam of patients, obtaining specimens, or treatment.
Ability to maintain a positive working relationship with medical staff, Tribal members, and the public.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications.
Minimum Requirements :
Must have previous experience in ambulatory clinical setting. Have 1+ year experience in Medical office.
Must have experience with electronic medical records.
Must possess a Washington State License as a Medical Assistant.
Must have all immunizations up to date.
Must be able to work with pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.
Required to complete a pre-employment criminal background check and subsequently obtain access to IHS EHR.
Must possess a CPR Card.
Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit.
Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.
Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
