POSITION TITLE : Guidance Counselor

JOB GOAL : To provide students with educational, personal, and career technical counseling and to identify and coordinate all available resources required to enable and empower students to reach full potential.

REPORTS TO : Principal or designee

SUPERVISES : N / A

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Develop, implement, and evaluate an annual local school guidance and counseling plan in accordance with standards set forth by the State Plan and commensurate with the local system plan.
• Provide individual and group counseling and guidance.
• Provide orientation for new students, parents / guardians, and faculty.
• Consult with parents / guardians, teachers, and staff about the special needs of students and make appropriate referrals.
• Provide appropriate appraisal services to assist teachers, parents / guardians, and students.
• Administer tests, analyze and interpret test results to provide information about educational, vocational, and personal / social needs.
• Assist with placement and follow-up services for students.
• Assist students in selecting programs of study to enhance career planning.
• Provide information and resource services for students, parents / guardians, and faculty.
• Assist students in building self-esteem and developing decision-making, problem-solving, and positive human relations skills.
• Provide crisis intervention services.
