The annual salary listed for this position includes the additional $0.75 per hour maximum security stipend ($1,560 annually) for full-time positions domiciled in a maximum security institution.

Responsibilities
- Supervises Correctional Officers; develops expectations, monitors performance and work habits. Assists the Corrections Training Officer in conducting orientation and in-service training programs. Observes personnel to ensure compliance with established rules, regulations, and procedures. Conducts on-the-job training for Correctional Officers.
- Serves as officer-in-charge of special security posts where independent judgment and responsibility are required. Patrols living quarters, grounds, and buildings to observe offender behaviors and the effectiveness of Correctional Officers. Prepares and submits reports on offender violations, unusual offender behaviors, observed deficiencies, and security breaches or failures.
- Discusses minor adjustment problems with offenders; refers serious problems to proper correctional facility staff; promotes rehabilitation by attempting to modify offender's social attitudes and encouraging worthwhile activities. Inspects buildings and equipment for security, safety, and sanitary conditions.
- Supervises movement of offenders inside and outside the facility; conducts periodic counts of offenders; and searches offenders and their living quarters for contraband. Arbitrates disputes and settles grievances among offenders, enforcing disciplinary measures when necessary; refers difficult disciplinary problems to an administrative supervisor.
- Performs work in accordance with established rules / regulations; receives general administrative direction and performs other related work as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Six or more months of experience as a Correctional Officer or Probation and Parole Assistant with the Missouri Department of Corrections; OROne or more years of military service, or experience in the custody of adult criminal offenders in a city, county, state, or federal facility.Other requirements may apply, including physical examination prior to appointment and possession of a valid vehicle operator's license by assignment. Compensation & Benefits
Contingent upon assignment, you may be eligible for :
A $2.00 per hour shift differential for certain 24 / 7 facilities on specified shifts.A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing stipend for regular posts within restrictive housing units.The Department offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase every two years of continuous service up to 20 years, plus other benefits such as health insurance, retirement, disability, and more. Most 529 College Savings Program is available.
