UXO Safety Quality Control Specialist

Overview :

The UXO (Unexploded Ordnance) Safety & Quality Control Specialist is responsible for overseeing and enforcing all safety protocols and quality control measures related to UXO detection, identification, removal, and disposal operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and effectiveness of UXO operations, maintaining compliance with industry standards, federal regulations, and company policies. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in UXO operations, safety management, and quality assurance practices.

Primary Responsibilities :

• Develops and, on approval, implements explosives and health and safety plans and programs in accordance with applicable DoD, federal, State, and local requirements.
• Implements and monitors adherence to safety protocols and procedures during all phases of UXO operations. Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, Department of Defense (DoD) regulations, and company safety policies.
• Serves as a liaison between UXO operation teams, management, regulatory agencies, and clients.
• Communicates safety and quality control standards and expectations clearly and effectively.
• Evaluates and recommends UXO detection and removal equipment and technology. Ensures all equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and operated according to manufacturer specifications and safety standards.
• Meets the criteria for and perform the functions of a UXO-TIII.
• Establishes and ensures compliance with site-specific explosives safety requirements, including :
• Enforcing personnel limits and explosives safety quantity distance (ESQD)
• arcs for explosive-related operations.
• Conducts, documents, and reports the results of safety inspections and ensures implementation of corrective actions.
• Ensures protective works and safety equipment within an exclusion zone are used, when required, and operates in accordance with manufacturer's specifications, applicable DDESB approvals, DoD policy, and federal, State, or local statutes, regulations, and codes.
• Participates in emergency response planning and activities as required.

Education and / or Experience :

Bachelor's degree in engineering, Safety Management, Environmental Science, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Safety Professional, UXO Technician qualification) are highly desirable.

Minimum of 3 years of experience in UXO operations, with a strong emphasis on safety management and quality control.

In-depth knowledge of UXO detection and disposal techniques, safety regulations, and quality assurance practices.

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and lead teams.

Ability to work in high-stress environments and respond effectively to emergency situations.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with quality control software tools.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations :

Must be able to complete Physical evaluation and 40 hours HaZwoper training.

Certification in UXO safety management, quality control, or a related area is highly desirable.

Comprehensive knowledge of UXO safety regulations, standards, and best practices.

Must be able to wear personal protective equipment as required.

Ability to stand, walk, and navigate uneven terrain for extended periods.

Must be physically capable of performing inspections, audits, and training in various environmental conditions.

Work Environment :

This position may require travel to various sites, including potentially hazardous areas. The candidate must be physically capable of wearing protective gear and operating in environments where exposure to explosive materials is possible. Working hours may vary depending on operational needs, including weekends and holidays.
