Job Summary

Please note : this is a part-time position; average of 20 hours per week. Varied work schedule which could include some intermittent evening / weekend events.

The Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) Community Liaison will serve as a certified CPST and injury prevention advocate to promote child passenger safety and broader pediatric injury prevention, with a special emphasis on preventing traumatic brain injury (TBI). This role will lead education efforts on car seat safety, fall prevention, bike helmet fitting, and general injury prevention practices.

The Community Liaison will increase BCH's presence in the community by organizing and delivering injury prevention events-including child passenger safety check-ups, bike rodeos, helmet fittings, and health fairs-at times and locations accessible to underserved families. The role will collaborate with the Childhood Injury Prevention Program, coalitions, schools, and community-based organizations to implement an interdisciplinary, public health approach to injury prevention.

Key Responsibilities

Community Outreach & Education

Plan, coordinate, and execute community events such as car seat check-ups, bike rodeos, helmet fittings, and health fairs.

Conduct individual and group trainings on childhood injury prevention topics, tailoring content to community needs.

Distribute up-to-date, culturally appropriate educational materials to underserved communities.

Program Development & Implementation

Collaborate with schools, clinics, and community-based organizations to design and deliver health promotion and injury prevention programs.

Conduct needs assessments to identify injury risks and educational gaps among underserved and at-risk populations.

Assess and revise course content and training techniques to ensure effectiveness and accessibility.

Secure, develop, and maintain educational equipment and instructional resources.

Partnerships & Collaboration

Strengthen partnerships with local community-based organizations, coalitions, and schools to expand outreach.

Serve as a liaison between UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital and community stakeholders.

Organize and disseminate educational resources to maximize community engagement and impact.

Program Evaluation & Reporting

Maintain resource databases to monitor program utilization and outcomes.

Track effectiveness of health promotion and injury prevention efforts, reporting findings to program leadership.

Professional Development

Maintain CPST certification through ongoing training.

Stay current with best practices in child injury prevention and health education.

Department Description

UCSF's Temporary Employment Program (TEP) recruits and hires temporary employees for immediate clerical and technical support services to UCSF Departments and various off-campus locations. UCSF departments deploy temporary employees to work on special projects, fill in for regular employees who are on vacation or leave, or to temporarily fill a vacant position during recruitment. Frequently temporary employees become successful candidates for career and limited appointment positions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent experience / training.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to engage diverse client groups.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and respond to community needs.

Preferred Qualifications

Certification as a Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST); may be obtained within 6 months of hire.

Thorough knowledge of health promotion and education with emphasis on childhood injury prevention.

Experience in designing and delivering community health education programs.

Demonstrated experience developing educational materials for underserved populations.

License / Certification
