Responsibilities
- Participate in the development and execution of regional underwriting strategy for Lines of Business (LoB). Work closely with Market Management, Claims, and other product lines to achieve key marketing strategies, including cross‑selling.
- Underwrite new and renewal accounts to meet top‑and‑bottom‑line targets. Negotiate price, terms and conditions with producers. Proactively manage capacity.
- Underwrite and evaluate natural catastrophe accumulation, ensuring understanding of catastrophe modelling and scenarios (for relevant LOBs). Underwrite international insurance programs (for relevant LOBs).
- Positively represent AzC externally to the market. Drive involvement of functional areas in the underwriting process, including MMC, ARC, Claims and Operations.
- Ensure accurate policy documentation is issued to producers or is produced by them. File maintenance – establish and maintain the file for each risk and transaction, and support policy administration and credit control processes.
- Support acquisition of new business and retention of existing business, including client and producer negotiations. Liaise with MMC on market management initiatives.
- Participate in key projects and training / development of underwriters (associate and senior). Serve as a referral point for other underwriters. Participate in cross‑regional activities as required.
Qualifications
Minimum 7 years of proven underwriting experience in profitable inland marine business. In‑depth understanding of its products and portfolio.In‑depth knowledge of regional / local LoB insurance markets and competitor landscape. Established relationships with brokers at peer level and within the local market.Ideal candidate will have worked as an underwriter or account executive and be well‑versed in multiple inland marine products (construction, transportation, miscellaneous coverages, property, builder’s risk, contractor’s equipment, motortruck cargo, physical damage, mono‑line property for small to medium risks, and scheduled property floaters).Preferably a bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Insurance, Business Administration, Finance or Economics, and completion of a professional insurance qualification.Ability to assess risk exposures and natural hazards relevant to LoB. Manage underwriting books, analyze trends and scenario plans, and develop portfolio strategies.Apply market knowledge and business / customer needs to support decision‑making.Ability to analyze complex data from multiple sources, identify and resolve issues proactively.Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to persuade and motivate others without executive authority.Proficiency with general office applications (PowerPoint, Excel, Word). Knowledge of AI tools to support day‑to‑day tasks is valuable.Legal authorization : Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future employment‑based sponsorship. Compensation
Annualized base pay range : $125,366 – $195,190 (nationwide market range). The base salary is one component of the total compensation package and may be above this range depending on role scope, complexity, location, skills and experience. Employees are also eligible for annual performance‑based cash incentive awards.
