Job Responsibilities
Patient Evaluation : Conduct comprehensive skin evaluations, including full-body skin checks and targeted assessments of suspicious lesions.
Skin Cancer Diagnosis : Diagnose a wide range of skin cancers, including basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma, and rare skin tumors.
Mohs Micrographic Surgery : Perform Mohs surgery for skin cancers, ensuring complete excision with immediate histological examination for clear margins while preserving healthy tissue.
Histologic Interpretation : Prepare, process, and interpret frozen tissue sections during Mohs procedures to assess for residual tumor presence.
Surgical Reconstruction : Perform complex wound closures, including primary closures, flaps, and grafts, based on surgical defect size and location.
Pre- and Post-Operative Care : Provide comprehensive patient education, including pre-operative instructions and post-operative wound care management.
Cosmetic and Functional Outcomes : Optimize cosmetic and functional outcomes following surgical treatment, especially for procedures on the head, neck, and hands.
Collaborative Care : Collaborate with dermatopathologists, oncologists, plastic surgeons, and other specialists when complex or multidisciplinary care is required.
Patient Education and Counseling : Educate patients on skin cancer prevention, early detection, sun protection, and self-examinations.
Medical Documentation : Accurately and thoroughly document patient encounters, procedures, diagnoses, treatment plans, and pathology findings in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Clinical Protocols and Compliance : Maintain high standards of care and compliance with clinical, laboratory, and surgical protocols, including infection control practices.
Continued Professional Development : Stay current with advancements in dermatology, skin cancer treatments, surgical techniques, and Mohs procedures through continuing education and certifications.
Quality Improvement Initiatives : Participate in systemwide quality improvement, peer review, and departmental meetings to enhance patient care outcomes.
Patient-Centered Service : Provide compassionate, timely, and patient-centered care, maintaining high levels of patient satisfaction.
