The HVAC Mechanic IV performs advanced skilled work (journeyperson level), related to preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, service, cleaning and repairs to heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment. The position directs the work of HVAC Mechanic II, III and helpers in daily tasks and performs skilled work independently under the guidance of the HVAC Mechanic V, Zone supervisor or their designee, in accordance with the standard practices of the HVAC trade.
What you will be doing
- Performs tasks by using the standard tools, materials, codes methods, and safe practices of the HVAC trade
- Maintains, services, cleans and repairs chilled water based air handling units and systems, direct expansion HVAC equipment, Variable Air Volume (VAV) boxes, and variable frequency drives (VFD’s), using appropriate trade tools and diagnostic equipment
- Operates energy management system : schedules, starts and stops equipment and adjusts the parameter to the HVAC system
- Maintains, troubleshoots, services, replaces, cleans, and repairs cooling towers, air compressors, air handler units, regulators, pneumatic and Direct Digital controls, exhaust and supply fans, water pumps, water coolers and related direct expansion equipment
- Assists other trades as needed
- Plans and generates work orders
- Assumes day to day responsibilities of the HVAC master in case of an absence
- Ensures that the work is completed in a safe manner and in compliance with applicable standard and good trade practices and applicable codes including but not limited to ASHRAE and OSHA standards, and Florida Building Code (FBC)
- Performs other duties as assigned
What you need to succeed
High school diploma or equivalent.A minimum of four (4) years experience in the HVAC trade, either as a trade helper (or equivalent) or as a participantMust possess EPA Card type 1, 2, or Universal Certification.Must possess a journeyman’s licenseMust possess a valid driver’s licenseKnowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and proceduresConsiderable knowledge of trade tools and of occupational hazards, safety precautions, local codes and regulations pertaining to the tradesAbility to plan, assign, review, supervise, and inspect the work of others, schedule facilities and staff, and coordinate work with other tradesAbility to handle and prioritize multiple assignments simultaneouslyAbility to read, write and understand oral and written instructionsAbility to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situationsAbility to follow instructions relating to work assignments that may be oral or written, and may be accompanied by sketches or blueprintsAbility to use electronic mail, web-based trouble report systems, and PDA based C.M.M.S softwareAbility to travel in county to all campusesAbility to work any shift including weekends, and holidaysAbility to perform on-call work and respond to after-hour emergenciesAbility to work well with students, faculty and staffEssential Position
