911 Dispatcher
The Harrison County Sheriff's Office is seeking qualified candidates for the position of 911 Dispatcher. This role is critical in ensuring the safety and well-being of Harrison County residents by receiving emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching appropriate emergency services, and maintaining communication with field units. Dispatchers serve as the vital link between the public and emergency response personnel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, EMS, other emergency services using radio, telephone, computer systems.
- Maintain accurate records of calls, unit status, and incident details.
- Prioritize emergency calls and allocate resources accordingly.
- Provide pre-arrival instructions when necessary (e.g., CPR guidance).
- Operate and monitor multiple communication systems including CAD.
- Maintain situational awareness of field units and incidents.
- Communicate effectively with the public, emergency responders, and other agencies.
- Testify in court proceedings as required.
- Report suspicious, prank, or fraudulent calls to supervisors.
Minimum Qualifications :
High school diploma or GED. Must be at least 18 years of age.Valid Ohio Driver's License. Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screening.Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle high-stress situations.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Proficient in multitasking and operating various computer systems.Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.Preferred Qualifications :
Prior experience in emergency communications or public safety.Certification in Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), CPR / First Aid, and LEADS (or ability to obtain within probationary period).Familiarity with Ohio law enforcement, Fire, and EMS codes and terminology.Benefits :
