Under general supervision, performs various tasks related to the maintenance of the City Cemetery, and performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility. Perform other duties as assigned.

Distinguishing Characteristics : This is the advanced journey level class in the Maintenance Worker series. Employees within this class are distinguished from the lower class by the level of responsibility assumed and the complexity of duties assigned. Employees perform the most difficult and responsible types of duties assigned to classes within this series, including providing functional supervision / lead duties in operations and activities of the Cemetery workers in the lower class. Employees at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to their assigned area of responsibility.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Lead, plan, train, and review the work of employees responsible for performing various cemetery maintenance tasks.
• Plan, direct, and participate in the repair and maintenance of the cemetery, including repairing monuments and structures; operate mowers, tractors, and handheld power equipment; clean bathrooms and repair irrigation systems.
• Train assigned employees in their areas of work, including the operation of mowers, tractors, and various types of other equipment.
• Supervise the use, care, and operation of various cemetery equipment, including tractors, mowers, chain saws, shop equipment, UTV's, vehicles, handheld power equipment, and various hand tools.
• Verify the work of assigned employees for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standards and specifications.
• Operate various mowers and tractors; repair irrigation systems; maintain and repair monuments as needed.
• Respond to citizen inquiries and complaints; maintain assigned vehicles, equipment, and tools needed for maintenance and repair of cemetery; make minor repairs; report major repair needs to supervisor.
• Show cemetery plots to potential customers, mark and locate graves.
• Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
