Overview
A Learning & Development (L&D) Manager will lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of training and development programs across the logistics and freight forwarding organization. This role ensures employees at all levels—from operations staff to leadership—have the skills, knowledge, and behaviors needed to succeed in a highly regulated, customer-centric, and fast-paced global supply chain environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a comprehensive L&D strategy aligned with organizational goals, compliance requirements, and workforce development needs.
- Design structured training paths for core logistics functions (Air Freight, Ocean Freight, Ground Transportation, Customs Brokerage, and Client Solutions).
- Build and manage onboarding programs tailored to freight forwarding operations, compliance, and customer service excellence.
- Introduce leadership, soft-skills, and professional development programs to strengthen employee engagement and career progression.
- Lead blended learning initiatives using instructor-led sessions, e-learning platforms, simulations, and on-the-job training.
- Partner with functional leaders (Operations, Finance, HR, Commercial, etc.) to ensure department-specific training modules are relevant and effective.
- Leverage Learning Management Systems (LMS) to track training effectiveness, compliance certifications, and career development pathways.
- Identify and integrate new learning technologies, micro-learning, and digital tools to drive adoption and effectiveness.
- Ensure training aligns with global, federal, and local regulatory standards, including mandatory compliance certifications for staff in sensitive functions.
- Partner with HR and Compliance teams to audit, report, and maintain training records for corporate and regulatory audits.
- Develop succession planning and career-pathing frameworks for logistics roles (from entry-level coordinators to managers).
- Introduce coaching, mentoring, and leadership development programs to prepare employees for broader responsibilities.
- Support organizational culture initiatives that reinforce safety, quality, customer service, and continuous improvement.
- Establish KPIs to measure training effectiveness, ROI, and employee development outcomes.
- Provide regular dashboards and reports to leadership on compliance completion, skills development, and talent pipeline health.
- Continuously assess skill gaps and recommend solutions to address workforce capability needs.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration.5+ years of experience in Learning & Development, with at least 3 years in logistics, freight forwarding, or global supply chain industries a plusExperience designing and implementing large-scale learning programs in multi-location / global organizations.Expertise in instructional design, adult learning principles, and training facilitation.Familiarity with LMS platforms, digital learning tools, and data-driven program evaluation.Excellent project management and stakeholder engagement skills.Strong communication, facilitation, and leadership presence.Ability to balance regulatory compliance training with innovative talent development initiatives.Job Metadata
