The average number of cases per day varies by day.
Mondays and Wednesdays mainly involve colonoscopies and endoscopies, averaging around 4 cases.
Tuesdays involve GYN cases with 3-4 cases.
Thursdays usually have no scheduled cases unless emergent.
Fridays typically have around 5 cases.
Common cases include cholecystectomies, appendectomies, hernia repairs, abdominal hysterectomies, hysteroscopies, D&C procedures, colonoscopies, endoscopies, and C-sections.
The RN may act as a backup for the respiratory therapist in emergency cases.
There is no requirement for RN's to scrub, but it is appreciated.
Charge nursing or house supervision is not part of this role, as an Assistant Nurse Manager oversees surgical services.
There is 1 certified surgical technologist per shift, with 2 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and 1 on Thursdays.
The EMR system in use is Epic.
Staffing consists of 4 RNs per shift : 1 in preop, 1 in the OR, 1 in PACU, and 1 float.
Staff arrival time is at 0700 each day.
Assignments are distributed the week prior to shifts.
All staff remain until patients are out of PACU.
Regular shift ends at 1930, but staff may leave early if there are no cases, though they are expected to remain available for call back.

Call response time is expected within 30 minutes.
Floating to preop and PACU may be required, and tasks may extend to other departments if there are no surgeries scheduled.
Surgical scrubs are provided.
The orientation consists of 2 days in the OR and limited training in preop / PACU, with no extensive training provided.
The team is small, and collaboration is key, with expectations for all members to lend support.
The pace of work can be slow with significant downtime.
Finding housing may be challenging, as no onsite housing is available; RV sites are plentiful, with nearby housing options available.
