Description

The Staff Commissioning Engineer will perform commissioning, retro-commissioning, and energy-related assignments for complex buildings and systems in the mission-critical, healthcare, laboratory, aviation, manufacturing, higher education, commercial building, water & waste water, and onsite energy markets. The engineer will collaborate with the project team throughout the commissioning process, adapting plans to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs.

  • Prepare commissioning plans, specifications, and checklists based on Burns & McDonnell standards.
  • Review design documents, equipment submittals, operation and maintenance manuals, start-up reports, checklists, and training programs.
  • Assist in training operation and maintenance personnel on operating modes, sequences, and equipment specifics.
  • Document results, identify shortfalls, and collaborate on remedial measures with stakeholders.
  • Plan, schedule, and execute work for small to mid-size projects, supporting larger projects as needed.
  • Conduct site visits for commissioning, system evaluation, and witnessing equipment start-up / testing.
  • Contribute to developing methodologies, tools, and standards for commissioning practices.
  • Participate in meetings to coordinate project goals and scheduling.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • BSc in Mechanical, Electrical, or Architectural Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • At least 3 years of commissioning or related experience in various facility systems.
  • Certified Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
  • Strong facilitation, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Attention to detail and proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of site safety procedures, including electrical safety.
  • Experience with monitoring equipment and energy modeling software is a plus.
  • Experience with energy audits, retro-commissioning, and related fields is advantageous.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain facility access authorization.
  • Completion or ability to complete OSHA 8-hour Safety Training.
  • This job posting remains open until filled, with a minimum duration of 72 hours.
