Marine Corps Community Services Job

Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) is looking for the best and brightest to join our team. Responsibilities :

  • Coordinates beach programs.
  • Establishes command and control of daily operations and emergency situations.
  • Protects patrons from hazardous conditions by ensuring rules and regulations are enforced.
  • Performs water and land rescues up to the standard of training when a water emergency is taking place.
  • Manages respiratory and cardiac emergencies to include performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), bag-valve-mask resuscitation, or automatic external defibrillation (AED).
  • Uses and maintains care of emergency equipment such as specialized kits and bags, backboards, suction devices, splints, stretchers, oxygen delivery systems, and monitoring equipment.
  • Controls external bleeding with direct pressure and treats for shock.
  • Splints and immobilizes fractures and dislocations for transport.
  • Attempts to ascertain whether the patron has preexisting medical problems and to obtain critical medical history information from the patron.
  • Performs initial and ongoing patron assessment and physical examination and determines treatment methods.
  • Determines priority of patron care based on assessment findings.
  • Takes, records, and monitors patrons baseline vital signs including temperature, blood pressure, and pulse.
  • Assists patrons in taking emergency medications.
  • Employs a variety of established emergency medical techniques, methods, and equipment to stabilize the patient for transport to the receiving facility.
  • Assists with intermediate life support or assists paramedic staff.
  • Prepares appropriate and relevant patient care documentation and reports to ensure medical requirements are met and accurately reported.
  • Conducts safety inspections of equipment.
  • Ensures proper disposal of medical waste and potentially infectious materials.
  • Performs the duty of an Incident Command in the event of an emergency, prior to advanced personal arriving on the scene.
  • Completes appropriate accident reports.
  • Removes hazardous materials from beach (i.e. floating debris, glass, etc.).
  • Participates in joint training exercise with outside agencies.
  • Participates in mutual aid response as required.
  • Provides a beach / ocean conditions report.
  • Marks swim and surf areas with a flag / sign system.
  • When appropriate, operates rescue vehicles (e.g. PWC rescue craft, patrol boats and automobiles).
  • Performs light maintenance on lifeguard towers, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Instructs / assists with instruction of water sports and water safety education.
  • Supervises ocean lifeguard personnel to include : assigning and distributing work, coaching, counseling, training and mentoring employees, completing performance reviews and approving time.
  • Conducts safety awareness sessions to promote a safe working environment.
  • Develop and implement best practices to improve operational efficiency.
  • Supervise lifeguard staff in the day-to-day functions of the department.
  • Delegate work responsibilities for staff and monitor employee attendance on a daily basis.
  • Maintains service operations by inspecting and maintaining vehicles.
  • Conduct regular inspections on lifeguard towers and other areas of responsibility to determine areas that need attention and then perform the tasks.
  • Ensure the areas are maintained as safe environments and serve their intended function.
  • Must be alert substance abuse from staff members and take appropriate action.
  • Instructs and evaluates subordinate staff in ocean rescue techniques and procedures, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, first aid and preventive measures relating to beach and watercraft safety.
  • Maintains a physical fitness program for ocean lifeguard staff through detailed reports of workout routines and test.
  • Provides world class customer service with an emphasis on courtesy.
  • Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner.
  • Takes action to solve problems quickly.
  • Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.
  • Adheres to safety regulations and standards.
  • Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and / or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.
  • Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45lbs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance is required, while performing normal duties in the area. May perform work that poses physical demands beyond normal requirements during rescue. Work may be performed in settings where exposure to moderate discomforts, high temperatures, and / or adverse weather conditions exist.

Evaluations : Qualifications :

  • A minimum of three (3) years ocean lifeguard experience, and / or 1,000 hours worked at a United States Lifesaving Agency (USLA) accredited lifeguard agency.
  • Related education and practical experience in ocean lifeguard practices and emergency medical practices.
  • Knowledge of sound safety procedures and practices, common hazards and protective measures, including safety devices, as it applies to water safety and emergency medical skills.
  • Knowledge of the beach environment, marine life, and beach and water hazards.
  • Knowledge of teaching techniques and supervision principles and practices to teach, train and supervise staff and general public.
  • Proficient in surf lifesaving techniques and radio communications to undertake a safe and efficient rescue operation.
  • Perform skills required to maintain USLA rescue skills and agency certification.
  • Must be able to complete an ocean run swim run event (1 / 4 mile run, 500 meter swim, 1 mile run).
  • Must be able to complete 500-meter swim in less than 10 minutes in a controlled environment.
  • Training and Certifications :

  • Must be qualified to operate Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) from an accredited agency to rescue vehicles, PWC vessels and rescue boats. Attain within one year of employment.
  • Maintains a current CPR for the Professional Rescuer Instructor and Emergency Response Instructor certification provided by a nationally recognized agency. Attain EMR Instructor within one year of employment.
  • Maintains Emergency Medical Technician certification prior to hire (nationally or state registered within the state applying in) when deemed essential by the installation.
  • Maintains SCUBA Rescue certification from a nationally recognized agency (based on the need of the installation). Attain within one year of employment.
  • Ability to complete Incident Command Systems training 100 and 200. Attain within one year of employment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquiries and State Criminal History Repository Check (CNACI) background checks which are required for positions that involve working with children under 18 years of age.
