We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Controller to lead our accounting and financial operations in Glendale, California. In this role, you will ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards while providing strategic financial insights to support the firm's decision-making processes. This position requires expertise in finance, accounting, and legal industry practices, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with leadership and administrative teams.
Responsibilities :
- Direct and manage all accounting functions, including general ledger activities, budgeting, financial reporting, and month-end closings.
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with relevant standards.
- Oversee billing processes, including collections and trust account management, in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure legal compliance in financial operations, including the proper handling of client funds and trust accounts.
- Administer payroll for attorneys and administrative staff, maintaining accurate records of employee benefits.
- Partner with firm leadership to develop and implement financial strategies aimed at improving profitability and operational efficiency.
- Analyze financial performance to identify opportunities for cost reduction and revenue enhancement.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, ensuring smooth daily operations and adherence to best practices.
- Manage audits, tax reporting, budgeting, and compliance functions to uphold regulatory standards.
- Lead initiatives to implement and optimize financial systems for enhanced operational efficiency.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation is preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 4 years in a managerial role.
- Proven experience in the legal industry, including familiarity with law firm financial operations and trust accounting.
- Advanced proficiency in accounting software, such as QuickBooks or specialized legal billing platforms.
- In-depth knowledge of legal-specific billing requirements and accounting principles, including GAAP.
- Exceptional organizational skills, analytical abilities, and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel, with experience in financial strategy and forecasting considered a plus.
