American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Los Angeles, California.

Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Telemetry Float position requiring a CA RN license and strong telemetry and orthopedic skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a hospital setting on a Med / Surg and Telemetry Float unit
  • Care for adolescent through geriatric patients including general med / surg and moderate volume orthopedic surgical cases
  • Average census of 36 with 36 beds and 1 : 4 nurse to patient ratio
  • Day shift with 3x12 hour shifts from 11 : 00 to 23 : 30
  • Every other weekend coverage required
  • No on-call requirement
  • Floating to other units may be required
  • Royal blue scrubs are required
  • Responsibilities include cardiac monitoring, managing post-cardiac and orthopedic surgical patients, and implementing a range of respiratory therapies
  • Must be able to provide safe care for complex med / surg and telemetry patients including emergency response
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Requested time off must be submitted with the initial application; no RTO allowed during the first two weeks of the assignment
  • Once RTO is submitted, it cannot be changed to add more dates, only to cancel requested time off

    • Requirements

  • Active CA RN license required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent telemetry nursing experience
  • Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Ability to read and interpret ECG rhythm strips
  • Experience with post-cardiac procedures, cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and Rapid Response Teams
  • Proficiency with IV therapy, phlebotomy, central and PICC line care, as well as administration of blood products and cardiac medications (no titration)
  • Familiarity with orthopedic total joint cases and care
  • Strong skills in respiratory and thoracic management including chest tubes, CPAP / BIPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and tracheostomy management
