Job description

Founded in 2020 by a team of leaders from Braintree, PayPal, and Lending Club, Highnote is an embedded finance company that sets the standard in modern card platform management. As an all-in-one card issuer processor and program management platform, we provide digital-first organizations with the flexibility to seamlessly issue and process payment cards, embed virtual and physical card payments, and integrate ledger and wallet functionalities—empowering businesses to drive growth and profitability.

We’ve raised $145M+ and have grown our team to 125+ employees. Headquartered in San Francisco, we’ve managed to build one of the most advanced payments teams in the industry, with team members in 25+ US states.

Operating through our core values of customer obsession, executional excellence, intentional inclusion, we’re helping businesses grow for the future by creating the payment products demanded by tomorrow, with the ability to solve for use cases that don’t exist yet.

We are fast-moving, hands-on, and strongly believe everyone deserves a seat at the table. We believe we’re unlocking incredible opportunities that can change the future of payments, as long as we have the right people to make it happen.

Job Description

Highnote is seeking a Senior Product Manager – Acquiring to lead the development of our payment acquiring and merchant services platform. Your work will enable Highnote’s clients—innovative fintechs, platforms, and brands—to build and scale exceptional payment experiences with robust merchant servicing infrastructure.

You’ll own the full payment acceptance lifecycle — from onboarding, underwriting, tokenization, and routing to dashboards, reporting, analytics, disputes, and operational tooling. You’ll collaborate across engineering, operations, finance, risk, compliance, and data science to build scalable, highly configurable acquiring capabilities that meet the complex needs of our clients. This role will shape how Highnote’s platform delivers financial accuracy, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and exceptional client experiences.

You’ll also help drive our platform’s AI and automation roadmap — partnering with data science and engineering to apply Generative AI and machine learning to optimize servicing workflows, reduce manual processes, proactively identify exceptions, and improve portfolio performance.

We’re looking for someone who combines strong product leadership with a solid foundation in payment acceptance, product management principles, and embedded finance. Experience in SMB and enterprise merchant models, eCommerce and card-present acquiring, and support agent servicing operations is highly desirable.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Define and drive the product roadmap for Highnote’s payment acquiring platform, ensuring flexibility to meet a variety of subscriber needs.
  • Formulate the acquiring product strategy, translate it into actionable plans, and lead execution from discovery through launch and ongoing iteration.
  • Design and deliver platform capabilities across merchant management, payment processing, payment method workflows, risk mitigation, fraud monitoring, and dispute handling.
  • Collaborate with engineering and design to develop intuitive APIs, servicing operations tooling, and customer-facing interfaces where appropriate.
  • Partner with Data Science to apply GenAI and ML to acquiring use cases, driving automation, exception handling, and performance optimization.
  • Define metrics, calculations, and reporting UIs to support reconciliation, financial reporting, and portfolio monitoring.
  • Partner with risk, operations, compliance, and finance to ensure acquiring solutions meet internal standards and external regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct market research to understand evolving payment acceptance trends, compliance shifts, and subscriber needs.
  • Create clear Product Requirement Documents (PRDs) that outline user stories, technical considerations, and key success metrics.
  • Define and track critical KPIs to assess product success and guide roadmap evolution.
  • 8+ years of product management experience in fintech, acquiring, payment processing, financial operations, or financial infrastructure — or equivalent experience in accounting, investment banking, or financial services.
  • Strong foundation in acquiring, accounting, finance, or financial operations; experience with financial calculations, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Proven ability to lead complex cross-functional product development across engineering, operations, risk, compliance, and finance.
  • Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ownership mindset — driven to build highly reliable, scalable, and auditable acquiring products.

What Will Set You Apart

  • Background in payment processing, merchant acquiring, or support agent servicing operations.
  • Domain Expertise : Deep understanding of payment acquiring processes, including onboarding, underwriting, billing, optimized acceptance, disputes, and operational tooling.
  • Familiarity with common POS systems, interchange qualification, and servicing operational risk management.
  • Platform Thinking : Experience developing flexible, API-driven infrastructure supporting multiple business models and experiences.
  • Strategic & Tactical Balance : Ability to set a high-level acquiring strategy while diving deep into operational workflows, technical edge cases, and compliance requirements.
  • Technical fluency with APIs, payment processing systems, and data analytics tools (e.g., SQL, Looker, Tableau).
  • Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience building enterprise merchant and marketplace servicing platforms, support agent systems, or B2B financial infrastructure products.
  • Strong knowledge of acceptance processes, payment routing, or chargeback resolution.
  • Prior experience as a developer of financial software products.
  • Experience operating in highly regulated financial environments and collaborating closely with compliance and legal teams.
  • Why Highnote?
