Manager Program Risk Mgmt

This position is responsible for managing the risk management function for the Northwest Region to strengthen risk profiles by proactively working to prevent situations that can result in losses or liability and to improve safety, utilization of resources and achievement of desired outcomes. Work also involves collaborating with clinical service lines in carrying out performance improvement projects / initiatives relating specifically to risk management. An incumbent oversees various management-level work teams, providing support, expertise and guidance in : the application of accepted clinical quality improvement methodologies / tools; data collection and statistical / operational analysis; risk assessment and outcomes measurement; best practices research; documenting and implementing process improvements; and evaluating desired vs. actual clinical effectiveness of performance improvement efforts. An incumbent also provides litigation support for the the Northwest Region Legal Counsel, including chart review and discovery.

Work requires strong clinical nursing expertise as demonstrated by possession of an RN license and an understanding of patient care standards / practices and applicable regulatory requirements sufficient to review nursing / provider documentation to analyze whether the Standard of Care was met, facilitate risk control, loss mitigation and claims management. Considerable knowledge of risk / quality improvement concepts, methodologies and tools, and of the importance of data to performance improvement processes (e.g. establishing baseline, providing objective measurement, determining the degree of the problem, showing variation / causes of variation, identifying root causes, developing appropriate solutions, etc) is also required. Duties performed involve weighing and evaluating many factors requiring judgment, analytical ability and problem-solving in dealing with complex data and situations.

Job Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree in health administration, nursing, business administration or related field and graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Minimum of six years of progressively responsible related work experience (hospital / healthcare risk management) that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge / abilities.
  • Three years in a supervisory or management capacity.
  • An equivalent combination of additional qualifying work experience and education that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge / abilities may be substituted for the degree requirement.
  • Active Washington State Registered Nurse License required.

  • Certified Professional in Healthcare In Risk Mgmt (CPHRM)
