Job Description
As an Environmental Planner, you will oversee environmental planning projects, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote sustainability. Responsibilities include conducting assessments, managing permits, preparing reports, and coordinating with agencies and stakeholders. Youll provide expertise in policy, land use, and resource management, lead multidisciplinary teams, and oversee timelines and budgets under the guidance of a Principal in Planning.
This position is hybrid, and may work out of our Seattle, Kirkland, Burlington or Freeland offices.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist project teams in comprehensive planning, shoreline master program updates, and critical areas ordinance updates, including review of best available science
- Assist with development of environmental policy and regulations that protect natural resources in concert with the interests of people and communities to create sustainable solutions
- Coordinate with project applicants, engineers, architects, and agency staff to ensure project permit feasibility
- Manage project budgets, scope, timelines, and staff
- Prepare environmental permits and documentation, including Section 404 / 401, HPA, shoreline, critical area permits, SEPA / NEPA, and Environmental Impact Statements
- Review internal documentation, QA / QC
- Interact and communicate with clients, regulators, and staff at all levels
- Occasional travel in locations across the Pacific Northwest
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in planning, environmental science, or a related field3+ years of experience as an Environmental Planner or similar roleExperience with local, Washington state, and federal permittingAbility to work cooperatively on multidisciplinary projectsExperience in oral presentationsExperience using standard computer programs, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPointValid drivers license and good driving recordSuperb interpersonal skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to prioritize competing demands and identify critical pathBenefits and Compensation
