Job Summary
The Accountant II performs complex accounting tasks such as budget preparation, financial forecasting, and the development of financial policies. This position operates with minimal supervision and is expected to contribute to strategic financial planning and decision-making within the district.

Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree with five years of related experience
- Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and government auditing and reporting regulations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and accounting software and a strong understanding of accounting principles
- Fingerprint clearance with the Alabama State Department of Education prior to the start date
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Collaborate with all departments to prepare accurate annual budgetsMonitor ongoing expenditures, compare them against budget forecasts, and identify significant variancesRecommend and implement corrective financial actions to align expenditures with budgetary plansPrepare comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statementsConduct detailed variance analysis to determine discrepancies and understand the underlying causesDevelop financial reports that clearly summarize operational performanceProvide robust financial modeling and forecasting to aid in strategic planning and improve predictive financial accuracyOversee and refine the processes for accounts payable and receivable to enhance efficiency and accuracyConduct complex account reconciliations and manage the overall reconciliation process to ensure accuracy in financial reportingLead the preparation for internal and external audits and provide support in addressing any queries from auditorsImplement corrective actions and improvements recommended by audit findingsEnsure all financial recording is up to date and accurately reflects the business operationsUse financial management software to streamline accounting processesAct as the primary contact for auditors, ensuring all financial documentation complies with regulatory requirementsDevelop and enforce financial policies that comply with local, state, and federal regulations to maintain financial securityAnalyze financial trends and performance to provide insights that support business decision-makingInvestigate financial misappropriation across the district and report findings to the Chief School Financial OfficerPerform other duties as assigned by the Chief School Financial OfficerRequired Skills and Competencies :
