Responsibilities Float among Med / Surg units including trauma surgical, neuroscience, oncology, clinical decision, orthopedics, and urology in a large hospital setting Patient populations include general surgery, vascular, neuro (CVA, TBI, seizures), oncology, orthopedic / spine, urology, and general Med / Surg Patient ratios range from 1 : 5 to 1 : 6 depending on unit Use of Cerner EMR is preferred Required to interpret and confirm telemetry strip reading every 4 hours, although monitoring techs provide support Weekend rotation is every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month No on-call requirements Floating occurs between similar specialty units as needed Assigned a home unit on first day of orientation with floating to other Med / Surg areas as needed Work with a support team including charge nurse, CNAs, phlebotomy, IV team, and hospitalists Orientation includes 24 hours classroom time and 24 hours unit time for travelers new to the facility or gone for over a year RNs must interpret telemetry strips every 4 hours Required to cover one major and one minor holiday per facility policy Blackout RTO dates apply throughout the year for holidays and peak times Scrub color is any color No local candidates accepted within a 60-mile radius Requirements Active AL or compact RN license required BLS and NIHSS certifications required Minimum 18 months of recent Med / Surg experience required At least 1 year of trauma and / or surgical experience required for certain units Experience with wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV skills, and medication administration required Experience with Cerner EMR highly preferred Previous perm staff must be gone for at least 6 months before returning as a traveler First-time travelers will be considered with required experience Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-609685.
