CHA has recently launched a state-of-the-art inpatient center for youth facing acute behavioral health challenges. Our Center for Inpatient Child & Adolescent Psychiatry provides transformative, patient- and family-centered care for children aged 3-17, including those with neurodevelopmental disorders.
The Adolescent Unit is a secured psychiatric environment for children aged 12-18, located in Somerville Hospital. Focused on assessment, stabilization, and aftercare planning, our multidisciplinary team emphasizes teaching self-regulation, de-escalation techniques, and restraint reduction to foster patient- and family-centered care.
Job Purpose
The Milieu Counselor plays an integral role on our multidisciplinary team, supervising under a registered nurse to create a safe and structured environment while addressing the individual needs of patients in crisis within an inpatient psychiatric setting.
In this role, you will assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), lead or co-lead therapeutic groups, conduct safety checks, engage in one-on-one meetings with patients, and accurately document vital signs and other relevant information. Responsibilities also include supporting patients with their daily needs including bathing, laundry, and room organization, while maintaining their nutritional and hydration requirements. You'll work closely with the charge RN to provide comprehensive care tailored to each patient's unique situation.
Qualifications / Experience :
High school diploma required; B.A, B.S., or M.A. preferred or equivalent years of human service experience.
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Prior experience in human services, behavioral health, or psychiatric settings is strongly preferred; inpatient psychiatric experience is a plus.
