About the camp
Bear Creek Aquatic Camp is a traditional overnight summer camp owned and operated by Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana. Located south of Benton, Kentucky, this 183-acre camp has 2.3 miles of shoreline on beautiful Kentucky Lake. Bear Creek offers campers a variety of aquatic sports including sailing, kayaking, canoeing, stand-up paddle boarding, windsurfing, and swimming. Our program hosts Girl Scouts entering grades 4 through 12 with up to 70 campers per session. Programs are run by paid camp staff and Girl Scout volunteers.
About the role
Right now, the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana is looking for a full-time Assistant Kitchen Manager that will aide in day-to-day operations of our overnight camp food service for adults and youth. Duties include assisting with menu planning, preparing 3 daily meals, maintaining, and cleaning an industrial kitchen, assure health and safety standards, and more. The primary function of this role is to ensure that each member, guest, and visitor receives the highest caliber of service. APPLY TODAY!

Compensation
The salary for the Assistant Kitchen Manager (Bear Creek Aquatic Camp) position is $3,888 for the entire summer season.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with daily food service operations, including prep and cleanup.
 - Help plan and prepare balanced meals for campers, staff, and volunteers.
 - Ensure accurate preparation for special diets (e.g., allergies, gluten-free, vegetarian).
 - Coordinate with staff on travel / pack-out meals.
 - Maintain food and supply inventory.
 - Support cleanliness, sanitation, and equipment upkeep.
 - Ensure kitchen meets health and safety standards.
 - Assist in emergencies as needed.
 - Perform other duties as assigned.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS / ENVIRONMENT
Non-traditional and long work hours are expected. Typically, the Assistant Kitchen Manager does not work at night and has intermittent downtime throughout the day between meals. There are breaks between camp sessions.The Assistant Kitchen Manager typically sleeps in the Lodge or nearby, with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and restrooms. The Assistant Kitchen Manager may sleep near other staff or campers. The Assistant Kitchen Manager may live off-site.The camp kitchen is air conditioned, has manual and mechanical food service equipment, a dish sanitizer, multiple sinks, fridges, countertops, a table workspace, and restrooms.This position frequently works with standard kitchen equipment including, but not limited to : freezers, refrigerators, ovens, stove-tops, broilers, microwaves, blenders, mixers, slicers, food processors, commercial dishwashers, knives.Exposure to common kitchen cleaners.Must have interpersonal skills / behaviors (i.e. working with individuals with a range of moods & behaviors in a tactful, congenial personal manner).MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION
Safe-Serve & First Aid / CPR (or willingness to obtain) CertificationsHigh school diploma or equivalentEXPERIENCE
Minimum of 6 months of customer service.Minimum of 6 months experience in an industrial kitchen, required.Minimum of 6 Months - 1 year of prior Kitchen or restaurant management.Prior experience cooking and serving 50-150 people per day, requiredDocumented experience in meal preparation for those with restricted diets and / or food allergies, required.SPECIFIC SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

Proficient understanding of sanitation and regulations for workplace safety.Proficient understanding of nutrition guidelines, food handling techniques, preparation (including safe preparation of food for those with restricted diets and allergies) and cooking procedures.Must understand and comply with food safety and temperature standards.Must understand safe use of common kitchen cleaning supplies, chemicals, and equipment.Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Must be able to work quickly and efficiently.Must be able to work well as part of a team.Access to reliable transportation.Meet state, federal, and ACA requirements for summer camp employment.Complete a background check and provide other forms and details.COUNCIL COMPETENCIES & ORGANIZATION REQUIREMENTS
